3rd Person POV
Skylor slowly sat up, "What's happening?"
She was in her dorm, the red-haired woman in a chair next to her. Nya was holding a hot towel on her forehead, "You passed out because we found your mother."
From next to her, Amber smiled, "It must be quite a shock to learn your mother wasn't dead all along."
"How?" Skylor asked, "We saw you get buried."
"Correction: you saw a woman get buried. I faked my death. Chen is a horrible, horrible person and I needed time to plan my next move."
Nya stood up, "I'll give you both some time alone." She left the room, and Amber turned back to Skylor, "My, you've grown so much!"
"Please, stick to the original topic."
"Right, sorry. Do you remember Jordon Gale?"
Skylor nodded, "The Mechanic. What does he have to do with this?" Amber stroked her daughter's hair, "He helped me fake my death, as did two servants: Kapow and Chop. At least...that's what they called themselves. I faked a heart attack, and once I was at the hospital, they snuck in and switched me for a fake body-"
"The fake body didn't have a heartbeat so it flat lined." Skylor realised. Amber nodded, "They drove me out to an underground cave, and I've been living out there for the past nine years, devising a plan to stop your father. It was supposed to be set in motion in a couple of months, but...your friend sped up the process by finding me."
"Oh," Skylor says, a little flatly. Amber took her hands, "Listen, Baby, I am so sorry I left you with that monster, I was coming back for you, I swear-"
Skylor laughed, "It's okay, I wasn't really at home much after you...'died.' I was mainly at the school, and on holidays, I went home with Kai and Nya. Dad really didn't seem to care. Listen, do I call you 'Amber' or 'Mom'?" Amber smiled at her daughter, "Whatever you're comfortable with, Ariel."
Skylor withdrew her hands, "I sorta...stopped responding to that name after you died..."
"Okay then." She pulled Skylor in for a hug, "What were you two doing out anyway?"
Skylor pondered over the decision of telling her. She was an Elemental Master...but she disappeared for nine years...but she could help them!
Reluctantly, she reached over to the bedside table where Nya had left the hitlist, and showed it to her mother. Amber frowned as she read through, "What are the numbers for? And the strikethroughs?"
"They're how much we're worth in millions, and the strikethroughs are when someone's died." Skylor explained. Amber let out a forced whistle, "10 million dollars for the death of my daughter?!"
"Well...it depends on how strong our elements are..." Skylor couldn't help but notice how her mother was clenching the sheet tightly, crumpling the paper, "Mom, relax."
"Oh, sorry, sweetheart, I just...why would someone want to kill all these innocent teenagers?" The young redhead shrugged, "For the money. The person distributing the cash must see this as some fun game; a scavenger hunt to find and kill every elemental master. It's lucky the Royals don't know about it, or we'd be toast."
"Well, if the Royal Family find out, they'd come here straight away. The majority of the names are students attending this place. Darkley's Boarding school is a hotspot."
"I know-"
The door burst open and Kai flew in, "Skylor, Skylor's mother- wait, Skylor's mother?!"
"I'm assuming this is your fiancé?" Amber asked, "I couldn't help but notice the ring on your finger. Might I add, you've got good taste!"
"Mom!" Skylor yelped, blushing furiously. Amber laughed, "I'm just teasing, sweetheart. You're Ray and Maya's son, aren't you?"
"Y-Yes, ma'am."
Amber nodded and turned to her daughter, "That girl who was with you, I'm assuming she's the Smith's youngest?"
"Yeah, Mom."
"I definitely see the resemblance...anyways, what were you going to say?"
"Oh...um..." Kai blinked, before nodding, "Right, yeah, um...another's dead. Camille. She was stabbed in an alleyway. 5 million's been claimed now."
Nodding, Skylor took a pen and crossed out Camille's name on the list.
