CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX : Heavy Fall

Clarinette | Liana

Ever since Vyrre told me about what they thought for Her Majesty, I haven't got enough sleep.

She's not like that, why would she be?

She was the most gentle ruler I ever met. Sensitive to her surroundings and very thorough. She would never do something like that and for what?

If they are right, but for what?

I never did something that would make me stand in the opposite direction. All rule breaking I did were too shallow to be paired with that greatest crime.

I never did anything crucial, so I never understood why Vyrre would think that way.

The Duke is preparing for something. Now I understand why he gathered excess woods because we will be accommodating more than 70 Knights. And he even said there will be coming before the winter ends.

I don't know what is happening. I was out of the world, out of the buzzing Palace and the Duchy.

I feel pathetically useless at this point.

I want to agree with his idea, with his goals. But at the same time, a part of me is reluctant.

I do not doubt Vyrre's convictions, but I want to be sure on what reaction I should pursue.

There is definitely a reason why this is happening.

"Wife..."

My consciousness went back to reality when I felt someone grab my arm and pull me closer to him as he whispered his favorite endearment.

I was cooking sweet potatoes on coal and when I realized they were already in the heat longer than I intended to, I immediately took them all out.

"They're burned," he said. "Don't worry, wife. I will make them eat that no matter what."

"Vyrre, kamote 'yan, malamang masarap kapag sunog. Palibhasa kasi first time niyo lang nakakita n'yan.

"Mag-merienda muna kayo."

Teirro looked at the tray he was holding and confusingly diverted his look at me.

"Those are called roasted sweet potatoes, Teirro.

"I'll distribute this as per instructed by the Duchess."
