Chapter 1:

She.

She stood there,
on the edge,
smiling brilliantly.

With her head held up,

she examined
the yellow tiles
on the ceiling,

her eyes wandering
from one side
to the other.

She frowned and smiled,
tilting her crown left,
glancing in my direction—

a tint of affection glinting in her eyes.

Chapter 2:

We both stood there, side by side,
rejoicing in the presence of one another.

For a moment,
it felt as if
we were the only ones down there,

in the tunnel.

For a moment,
it felt as if everyone else didn't matter
and we were both alone.

Time was only an illusion
and our presence the sole reality.

Every now and then,
we stole glances at each other
like two school children passing notes behind the teacher's back.

Unable to say a word, we both kept our distance—
as if afraid not to break
the other.

This was our first encounter.

Chapter 3:

The train
was coming nearer.

With every second,
the breeze intensified

and I could sense
her trembling skin
behind
the frilly dress.

White skin. White fabric. Red lips. Blue eyes.
White skin, white fabric. Red lips, blue eyes.
Whiteskinwhitefabricredlipsblueeyes.
Bewitched by her appearance,

I tried to look away.

The time board at the station announced the quick arrival of the train and soon enough, the lights gleamed yellow around the corner.

"Please walk away from the edge. The train for XXX is arriving shortly."
