Chapter 39:

The officer's shadow covered the entirety of the back seat,
his figure sealing the crowd's image away,

making me lose track of the girl.

No matter how hard I tried to spot her distinct silhouette,
I failed.

Over and over again.

"Where is she...?"

"Where is she...?"

"Where is she...?"

I kept muttering the same words again and again, hoping that my eyes would remain alert.

But they didn't
and the men's talk outside the car

froze me on the spot.

Chapter 40:

"Seriously. What's wrong with him?!"

There was no answer for a while, no sound but a deep long sigh.
And then the voice continued:

"He must've hallucinated, right? Or was he trying to escape?"

Another moment of silence.

No answer. No reply.

"Man~ what are we gonna do now?
Is he insane??"

RIIIIIIIIIIIIIP

"Hey, give me your hand."

A white cloth made its way to me
over the hundreds of sparkling crystals
on the bench.

"Does it sting a lot?"

I felt no pain
and saw no image
before my eyes.

Nothing but pure darkness or a haze.

Chapter 41:

I woke up in an unusual place,
all surrounded by red and white

textured metal
and a gloomy light.

I tried to sit up
but my head throbbed painfully.

"Lay down."
A warm hand pushed me back down,

gently.

"No sudden movement for the time being."
The same voice continued.

"Where am I...?"
I asked faintly.

"Safe."
