Chapter 48:

I traced my memories back to the strange silhouette of the girl waiting for the lights to turn green.

"Does the sight of blood make you faint?" The doctor continued, interrupting my train of thoughts.

He looked down at my bandaged hands.

"No, I don't think so...,"
I replied shortly.

He then made some quick notes,
asked a few more questions,
checked my blood pressure,
and lastly,
wrote a short prescription.

Finally, I was let go and passed back to one of the officers
from before.

"You'll definitely have some more explaining to do now,"
he commented on our way to the parking lot.

It all felt like a dream.

We walked in silence,

side by side,

each prey to our own

imaginations.

"Get in."

We stopped in front of a new car—
two other officers already waiting inside.

Chapter 49:

It didn't take long for us to arrive at the station,

and as soon as we got there, the officer I shared my seat with sprang out of the car and motioned for me to follow him.

I did as I was told and quietly walked
behind him.

My heart pounded in anxiety.

We entered the building
under the close surveillance of the cameras
and the benevolence of the two flags floating

in the warm breeze.

Chapter 50:

Our steps lost their echo in the large hallways.

A couple of people stood around, waiting in line for various departments.

Busy phones and loud voices filled the space.

"Please wait here," the officer instructed
before disappearing behind a wooden door.

"Um—"
I turned around, looking for the familiar face of the other man in the crowd.

But he was nowhere to be seen
and I slowly grew afraid
because, deep down, I knew

my situation just worsened.
