Chapter 16 - A Halloween Celebration

At lunch, Seth and Julie announced to everyone that they were engaged. To all of our surprise, they had finally spoken to Julie's father and he gave them his blessing. Alice was bringing in costumes for some to try on when she found out and went crazy excited and begged Julie and Seth if she could plan their wedding. They tried their best to tell her no but eventually gave in after her pleading became so intense it was annoying. However, they made Alice promise to keep it small and simple. I could hear Alice's plans already and knew Julie was going to be disappointed because it wasn't going to be simple according to Alice's plans.

Paul, Sam, Quill, Jared and Embry all refused to even try on the costumes that Alice made. No amount of pleading or begging from Alice, and she did try, could change their mind so, she moved on to the rest of us to try on our costumes so she could do alterations if needed. Jacob, Collin and Bradey tried to get out of wearing their costumes too but the look Alice gave them scared them enough not to argue with her. I couldn't help but laugh at them too. Little ol' Alice scaring the big wolfs.

Jacob visited with his sister and even showed her and Paul our home. She and I never became close but she at least acted kind towards me. I often had to tune her thoughts out because I, being half vampire and being with her brother, still bothered her. She even had an aversion towards Julie. She was still nice and talked with us but didn't go out of her way to make conversation and she avoided the rest of my Vampire family altogether. I was actually surprised she made the trip, to be honest. When she learned that she and Paul were staying at Collin and Bradey's house she was extremely relieved. To me, she was a little strange but I kept those thoughts to myself.

By supper, Kate and the rest of the Denali's had arrived. I had missed them more than I realized. Sometimes I would wish that they would live closer too but I knew how they loved living in Alaska.

Carmen and Eleazar were the first to hug and kiss me. I was like their granddaughter too. I felt as if they were another set of grandparents too.

I helped Esme and Mom cook supper for the non-vampires while Carmen and Julie chatted with us all in the kitchen. With everyone there, we had to cook a great deal of food. Esme had cooked two turkeys, two hams, three rump roasts with mash potatoes, green beans, bake potatoes (for those who wanted that instead) and all the fixings, salad, cream corn, corn on the cob, corn bread, homemade bread, mac and cheese, bake beans, broccoli and cheese, and desserts galore.

Esme had been cooking all day and even had that same amount of food for lunch for everyone, but different menu, that she alone cooked. I told her she was not to do any of the cleaning so after we all ate I made her leave with some of the others to hunt while I attempted to clean up mountain of dishes created. Thankfully, my Mother and Aunt Rosalie helped me out. I was so grateful that I did not have to deal with that many dishes every day. I did not know how Emily dealt with that all of the time; it was insane. Sometime while washing dishes and putting leftovers away, Jacob had come to tell me that he and the other wolves were going out to run together. I kissed him and told him to be careful before allowing him to run off with the anxious group of wolf men. They were loud leaving as their excitement only grew as they were joined by Emmett, Jasper, Jason, and Garret. Watching them out the window leaving, made me wish I could go with them but I wanted to help Esme with the cleaning so I dug in and got to work.

The imprints reluctantly stayed behind and kept each other company in the living room.

Everyone had loved the Halloween decorations and all the women loved their costumes. Those who remained at the main house while the others ran out, helped us finish up in the kitchen; except the imprints of course. Afterwards, we lounged around the living room and talked about the sleeping arrangements for the next two nights.
