You sat uneasily down on the couch, your hand resting on your stomach as you breathed slowly through your nose, trying to steady your rising nerves. Isaac would be home any second now, and you had decided that today was the day to break the news to him. You were two months pregnant, hadn't said anything to your boyfriend as of late, and were more anxious than you had ever been in your entire life. You knew from conversations upon conversations with Isaac Lahey that he was positively terrified of becoming a worse father than his own, which made him apprehensive when talk of having children came up. He wasn't sure if he was ready, or if he ever would be.

Well, even if he didn't want the baby, you decided, you did. You wouldn't give up having a child, the very dream you'd been dreaming since you were a young girl, because the father did not want him or her. You would. That would be enough.

You were already devising a plan to be ready if that was the case when Isaac opened the door, keys jingling in his hand and his soft voice mumbling the lyrics to whatever song he had just heard last on the car radio. He didn't notice you sitting on the couch, your face frozen in fear, until he was shrugging off his denim jacket and placing his shoes neatly by the door. He did this carefully, knowing you would be irritated if he left them scattered across the living room floor where you would definitely trip over them just as you had a dozen times before. He even marked a reminder on the back of his hand.

"Oh, hey doll," he said, placing his hands on the back of the couch and leaning down to press a kiss to your cheek. "Thought you'd be in our room taking a nap, didn't expect to see you out here," he grinned, absentmindedly stroking your hair.

"Um, yeah, just wasn't up to sleeping," you replied, giving him a short smile. His own grin dimmed a bit, and he cocked his head at you. You ruffled his curls to distract him for a moment, hoping he wouldn't notice that you were feeling slightly off. "Did you do something to your hair, it looks really good-"

He placed a warm hand over your mouth. "Something's wrong." He swung his long legs over the couch, placing them across your lap and settling down. "What's up, sweets?" He lightly kicked your legs with his feet. "Talk to me."

"Isaac," you began, closing your eyes and taking a deep breath. He could hear your heartbeat picking up, which worried him but he didn't interfere. He waited until you began speaking again. "Isaac... I'm pregnant." He moved his feet off your lap, dropping them to the floor. He moved over on the couch so that he was directly next to you, cupping your cheek with his hand. He leaned in, the tip of his nose barely touching yours and those cerulean eyes gazing into your own.

"Will you marry me?" He whispered, mumbling it against your lips so fast you almost couldn't hear the words. You felt his fingers trace rough patterns on your skin, his breathing slow and steady and hot against your mouth. He pulled away, but just barely. "I'm not only asking because you're pregnant. I was planning on proposing tomorrow, in a better way, but then, you said that, and I thought there was no better time than right now. We'll be a family. You, me, and that little bean in there," he said softly, poking your stomach. "Say yes? Please, darling, marry me?"

Instead of answering, you closed the distance between you two, kissing him for as long as you could manage without coming up for air.
