Cupid's Bow

6 2 3

When I was a little girl
I was told by a peer that
I was ugly
So I bought
A lip gloss
Because my lips
Must be the problem.

My parents told me I had
A cupid's bow
But no arrows were shot
Into the hearts
Of the boys I'd kissed.
Instead,
They would run
Away from me
'Cause I had cooties
An incurable disease
At six.

And now when I touch my lips
At night
I think about the person
I don't know yet
The person who will
Touch my lips for me
And consume all my arrows
Whether they hurt them
Or please them
Because they understand
My cupid's bow
Shoots arrows
Without my lips' consent
