It wasn't important but was the little joy she was able to squeeze out of this cruel world she lived in.
Everyone had something. Something to make them feel better, or at least distract them from reality.
For example, going on missions. Which the three riders had in common.
That was why Asuka and Rei approached Misato, with some drinks.

Asuka: Hey, Misato, want some?
Misato:(light smile) I'm fine. Thank you.
Rei: After eavesdropping on radio conversation along with the hacking of the computer we recently retrieved, we have confirmed a suspicious unveiling.
Misato: Suspicious unveiling?
Asuka: Yeah, Smart Brain is planning on opening a large arena along with a new rider.
Misato: An arena and new rider...? What do we know about either of them?
Asuka: Basically nothing about the rider. It's was just a footnote in what information we got.
Asuka: The arena on the other hand.
Rei: Data from the computer shows that it was built for a specific battle between two people. They specifically mentioned two names.
Misato: What were the names?
Rei: Adam and (Y/n).
Misato:!?
Asuka: To add on to the shock, the plans were at least updated a week before we got it.
Misato: Meaning they hadn't changed their plans, even though he's been missing for months.
Asuka: This has to be proof! He's alive!
Misato: But why do they want to fight him?
Rei: We do not have the necessary information to deduce such a question.
