prologue

"Ugh I can't stand you Miles" I groan. All I want is to slap that smudge smirk off his lips after he scared my date away. "Why do you always have to ruin all my dates?" My hands are placed on my hips, glaring at the blonde boy in front of me.

"It's not me they're running from, darling" his thumb reaching out to make a slight brush over my cheekbone, I instantly roll my eyes at the nickname and slap his hand away.

"Don't touch me" I walk away from him but as if he's a little puppy on a leash, he follows me to our friends. I place myself beside Ophelia, my best friend, gently placing my head on her shoulder and she rests her head on mine.

"Where's Lucas?" she questions, affirming to the boy I asked to join me for Christmas Eve brunch and the boy that left because Miles fucking Carter just happens to ruin everything in life, especially my life.

"Two words. Miles Carter." My eyes burn on him, I watch as he sits down in front of us between Tia and Evelyn, wrapping each of his arms around their shoulders. Gross. The smirk that his lips form makes me want to claw my eyes out.

"He's not your type anyways" He shrugs.

I exhale a loud scoff, clicking my tongue against my palate. "Excuse me? Lucas was sweet, polite, intelligent and-"

"Exactly my point. Mister good boy could never reach your standards"

"do enlighten me Carter. What are my standards?" All our friends are watching the intense eye contact, Ophelia's hand on my back, rubbing circles to calm me down. Our friends are used to me and Miles arguing over all the little stuff, especially since 'pushing Diana's buttons' is Miles's favorite game.

"not him"

"you don't know that"

"I know you"

"That doesn't mean you can scare my dates off"

"Oh please, you should thank me for saving you from such a bore of a person"

"Just because you can't stick with a girl for more than one night doesn't mean others can't" Miles's eyes burn me down. For a second I felt small under his gaze but I know I'm right. I don't feel sorry for what I said because as I said, I'm right and he knows it too.

"Okay I'm done listening to you two" Xavier stands up. Miles's eyes switch directly to his best friend's while it takes me a few more seconds to divert my eyes away from the clenched jawline in front of me. "How about we make a little deal. A bet"

Me and Miles share a quick glance before we look up at Xavier again. "Next year. If Diana doesn't show up with a boyfriend. Not a date, boyfriend. Miles has to take her out on a date"

"what!" I shout, nearly drawing the attention from our parents in the room next to us. I look at Miles who's enjoying every second of his time.

"Since Miles claims he knows your standards and you claim that all your dates are exactly your type when we know they're all the same and they never stick around-" Ophelia chuckles next to me while I roll my eyes "-then Miles can see if he can prove you wrong or if you're right"

I stare at Xavier for a long time. He's challenging me, I know it. I really don't wanna do this but I never back down from a challenge.

Game on Miles Carter.

My heels click the ground when I stand up. Straightening the skirt of my red velvet dress. "Bet" I reach my hand out in front of Miles. He looks me up and down before slowly standing up in front of me. His football body was towering over me. His hand gently slides to grip mine.

"Bet" suddenly he pulls my hand forward and I stumble into his body of muscles. His hand gently snakes around my waist, resting on my back while his lips rech my ear before he whispers "wear something black, tight and lacey on our date, darling" I quickly push him away with my hands.

"Keep dreaming Carter. I will never go on that date with you." with a click of my heel I walk off. This bet will be easy to win, right?
