~ "They hate each other." ~
~ "No they don't. Not really." ~

Posie sucked in a sharp breath and fought pacing around the room to calm her nerves. Ziba could smell the pure fear radiating off of her, but she stayed put by Kyros's side. It surprised him greatly and although he'd never admit it aloud, she earned a little respect from him.

Though her hands were trembling as she tended to Kyros's wounds where he laid unconscious on his bed, she never once faltered. Ziba carried him back home and was the one who secured his broken leg in a makeshift cast, which she was thankful for. She had no idea how to treat that injury, but she's watched him make the paste enough to treat his open wounds.

She cleared her throat as she cleaned up one of the last rather large gashes in his side. "Thank you.... I don't know what would have happened if you didn't help."

He eyed her silently before he gave a curt nod.

"I think he'll be okay, he just needs time to rest and heal." She rambled on. She had no idea how much the massive alien understood, but she nervously babbled on to settle her own nerves. "He needs to be on bed rest. You and I both know that's nearly impossible for him, but I'll try to get him to listen to me-"

"Kyros will."

She forgot how to form words at Ziba's sudden statement. She wasn't exactly sure how he knew English or what made him so confident that he'd listen to her, but she was thankful, nonetheless.

He knew the lovesick puppy would listen to Posie. She had him wrapped around her finger and she was clueless to it. If only as his second in command and friend, he could make Kyros listen to him....

She nodded slowly at his words. "That means you'll need to cover for him while he recovers. Keep others away from here because he's in no condition to fight them off."

He wordlessly agreed, bowed his head in understanding, and quietly left the room. He'd check in on them later.

She sat down by Kyros's side on the bed, exhausted already from how stressful the next several weeks would be now being Kyros's at-home "nurse."

He looked so peaceful as he slept, thankfully unaware for now how much he was banged up. Her eyes flickered from his dimples, chiseled jaw, to his strongly arched eyebrows. Her fingers seemed to have a mind of their own as they gently brushed a strand of hair away from his face.

She couldn't help but let her thoughts wander if God forbid something happened to him. It wasn't until she saw the way he fought off those creatures for her that she realized how much he cared for her. He just sacrificed his life for her and she didn't understand why.

She should hate him and she did at first. She despised him for keeping her captive. She thought he was just toying with her until he was hungry enough to eat her. Or he would use her as a trophy to show to the others how easily he caught a new species. But, he did none of that.

While he was technically holding her captive, he was doing it to protect her and keep her safe. She'd die without him. He went out of his way to make sure she felt comfortable with his presence. He studied that little book as much as he could to communicate better with her. Then to top it all off, he just laid down his life for her.

But why?

She rubbed a tear that threatened to fall from her eye. She's never had someone make her feel safe, or protect her like he has. Not even her parents. She loved them dearly, but moved out the moment she turned eighteen. It wasn't that her parents weren't good people, but they weren't great either.
