Chapter 20

Angelina's Point of View:

I woke up to the sound of the tweeting birds and the rays of sunlight that have entered our green tent. I opened my eyes slowly and came face to face with a sleeping Drew. My eyes widened in surprise and that is when I noticed my arms wrapped tightly around him. I blushed and immediately move my arms from around him.

I sat up and rubbed my eyes. To my left, Nate was snoring lightly and to my right, Drew was sleeping peacefully. I smiled at the guy to my right who looked like a little kid. I checked my watch and saw that it was still 8:00a.m.

I slowly crept out of the tent trying my best not to wake up the rest. Everyone was still sleeping when I checked their tents. Mia and Lee were wrapped in each other’s arms and I couldn’t help but smile when I saw them. Liam had his arms around Tia’s waist as they slept peacefully.

I decided to walk around the forest for a bit. I love the nature especially in the mornings. I grabbed my cell phone and started walking around the familiar forest. My thoughts drifted to my dad whom I haven’t seen in months. I miss him so much.

I unlocked my cell phone and went to my contact list. I stopped when I got to ‘Daddy’. A few tears escaped my eyes and I wiped them away quickly.

I pressed the call button and stared at my screen as my dad’s name flashed across it.

With shaking hands, I lifted the phone to my ear. I heard the loud beeps from my cell phone and waited with not much hope.

He didn’t answer.

Even though I knew he wouldn’t answer, I couldn’t help but cry when these two words flashed on my screen. ‘No answer.’

I shoved my phone into my pajama pants and continued walking around the forest. I allowed my tears to flow freely for the next few minutes before wiping them away because I was getting closer to our campsite and someone might be up.

When I reached the campsite, it was already 9:00a.m. I saw Drew sitting on one of the logs in front of our green tent, staring down at his phone. When he heard my footsteps, he looked up and smiled. His hair was messy and he was still in his pajamas.

I smiled back, shoving all the pain aside.

“Morning,” I said as I sat next to him.

“You okay?” he asked and I nodded without looking into his eyes because I was afraid he would find out I was lying.

He surprised me by putting a finger under my chin and lifting my face up to make out gazes connect. I tried my best to keep my eyes blank and prayed that he didn’t notice the immense hurt I was feeling.

He frowned and tried to search my eyes for something.

“I’m fine,” I insisted as I moved my gaze.

“Where were you?” he then asked, still frowning.

“Hunting for food,” I replied sarcastically and he rolled his eyes at me.

I turned my gaze to Drew’s lap when I saw his cell phone light up. The word ‘Mom’ flashed on his phone and he picked it up.

Smiling, he pressed the answer button.
