Bill Nye is peacefully trotting along some twoleg walkway, humming to himself the Bill Nye the Science Kitty theme song and mentally chanting, "Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill!" Suddenly, a gush of dust swirled like a storm in the distance, and a raucous roaring noise emanates from the 'dust storm'.

Bill Nye: 0-0 Just what is that?!

All around him, twolegs are pointing to the disruption, yelling to each other, and waving their arms in a rather foolish way. Soon after, a spray of crimson shoots into the air, the vibrant colour dazzling Bill Nye.

Bill Nye: *stares into the far distance, blinking* Can anyone explain to me what this is?

Black and ginger tom: *pads up from behind Bill Nye* Bruh, you're lucky you're not near that. It's a volcanic eruption. I wonder if my former Clanmates are alive or not.

Bill Nye: Who are you? Why wouldn't your Clanmates be alive?

Anonymous tom: Well, I am Magma, and I used to be called Magmapaw. MountainClan lived up on the volcano because we didn't know it was a volcano... no cat ever ventured to the top so no cat knew that there was a huge hole on top. There were deep rumbling noises that it kept making, and the silly cats thought it was a mountain, hence the name.

Bill Nye: *tilts head to the side* How did you discover it was a volcano? And what exactly is a volcano?

Magma: Good question. I didn't. I was exiled out of that stupid Clan for reasons I don't care enough to tell you about, and it wasn't until I talked to a kittypet did I learn that it was an active volcano. Dangerous. Ready to erupt any moment.

Bill Nye: Oh, um... *secretly a little scared* Are you sure it can't hurt us? *in his head* Are you sure you won't hurt me?

Magma: You didn't let me finish. Basically a volcano is a conical hilly mountain thing, with a hollow on the top that leads all the way down to the ground that contains magma, lava, rock fragments and other random rocks. But what is magma? Magma is a semi-liquid or liquid material that is formed by igneous rocks melting. So it's essentially just melted rocks that really, really, hot.

A volcano is formed by tectonic plates, which are huge plates of rock that are on top of the Earth's mantle, sinking. The rock of the tectonic plates melt when they sink because the mantle is hot, and slowly rises up through Earth's cracks to form a volcano.

Bill Nye: Interesting, indeed. I remember hearing a rogue tell me that the tectonic plates you talked about moved, and the friction they create while in motion can cause volcanic eruptions, which I have gathered is what all the twolegs are making a fuss about now. Is this true?

Magma: Indeed, it is. But only partly. It's mostly due to density and all the pressure. Did you know that the magma has lower density than surrounding rocks? This makes it rise, like air bubbles in thick substances, and as it rises more bubbles form from dissolved gases. These gas bubbles create more pressure—a lot! The magma is brought to the surface and forced into the air.

Bill Nye: *walking by Magma* So, basically volcanoes are the Earth's way to release the heat and pressure in it.

Magma: *nods*

The two toms walk side by side and proceed to talk about volcanoes for the rest of the day.
