Author's Note

Thanksgiving break is coming up! That means more updates because I've been slacking off on them for the past month.

I guess I haven't been updating as much because I know that this book will be ending soon, and I'm very reluctant to bring it to an end. I'm just trying to find any loose ends to tie up before I start the epilogue, so I apologize if it seems like everything in the story is moving too quickly.

Nevertheless, here's chapter 40; I hope you enjoy it!

PS- I recommend skimming over chapter 39 before you read this chapter, so you aren't confused with what is happening.

Sera's POV

Kurt and I strolled back, me still cursing him for the clothes that he had so kindly picked out for me. Once we had turned the corner and came back to the large field that all of the pack members were waiting in, Harper jumped up and ran towards us.

"Daddy! Ce-Ce!" she hooked one of her arms on each of our necks, and I winced when the bracelets at her wrist dug into my neck. She had a bunch of charm bracelets that probably weighed a pound because she stuck so many tiny charms on it.

"How are you my baby?" he placed her on the ground. I rubbed my hand against the back of my neck, soothing the scratches that her bracelets had caused.

"Good, I'm hungry though," she started running around in circles, her enthusiasm and energy infectious. I had no idea how she could be so excited after all that had happened today.

"You know..." I trailed off for a second, thinking over what I was about to say.

"What?" Kurt asked.

"To be honest," I paused. "Maybe you should fix up your security or something. It kind of sucks."

"What sucks?," I cringed when I heard Nate's voice behind me.

"Oh! Nate!" I turned around and smiled brightly. "I didn't see you there."

"Mmhmm," he wrapped his arms around my shoulders and kissed my cheek. "What were you saying?"

"I was saying," I nervously looked up at Kurt and tried to silently beg him with my eyes to help. He just grinned and picked up Harper.

"Gotta go find mommy," he smirked before walking away.

"Screw you!" I yelled after him.

"Sera," Nate nudged my cheek with his nose and I turned to make eye contact with him. For a second, I got lost in his gorgeous eyes and didn't say anything. "Baby? What were you saying?"

"I was hoping you would forget," I sighed and looked at the ground. "I was just saying that maybe your security is kind of.... sucky."

"Mmhmm," he paused and I worriedly glanced up at him before going back to stare at the grass. "Mmhmm."

"Are you angry?" I wrapped my arms around his waist.

"No," he pushed my chin up with his finger so that we were looking directly at each other. "I have to admit, you are true."

"Really?"

"Don't worry about telling me what you think," I felt his lips brush my cheek again. "You are the luna of this pack, we're going to work together to fix this shîtty security."

"Okay," I sighed in relief. "But I haven't been crowned luna yet."

"Let's fix that right now." I squealed as he picked me up and threw me over his shoulder.

"Neanderthal!" I yelled. "My äss is in the air!"

"I like it," he chuckled and caressed it. "Let's go make you luna!"

Derek's POV

I laid on the ground. A large piece of wall had fallen on me, and it was squeezing my body against the floor. I could feel blood seeping out of my body, and it was an uncomfortable feeling. I had gotten to the point of pain where I couldn't feel anything and I was slowly dying.

I knew that Jack was dead.

I knew that Liam was going to die soon.

Everything had gone to shît, and it was my fault. I had just wanted to have my father look at me like I was his son. But now I'm slowly dying, with no one in the world that cares about me. I was alone, like I had always been ever since I was born.

I sighed, and closed my eyes as I just let go of the life that I should have never been given.

Sera's POV

Nate had somehow gotten the whole pack to gather around us. I was standing on top a random piece of furniture, and Nate was holding my hand. Luna crowning ceremonies didn't have to be elaborate, the pack, the alpha, and the soon-to-be crowned luna just had to be there. I knew I looked like crap, with sticks in my hair and dirt smeared across my face. I could see Kurt pointing out my outfit to Harper, who was giggling.

"Remind me to kill Kurt later," I leaned in to tell Nate.

"Anything," he clasped my hands, and silence descended over the pack as they realized that we were about to begin. We looked in each others' eyes and I heard him say the simple words that would make me the luna of the pack. It was kind of like a marriage ceremony, just less fancy.

As luna,

You are here to take care of the pack.

You are here to be the mother or father to those who don't have one.

You are here to be strong for the pack.

You are here to sacrifice yourself for the pack.

Join hands with me, your mate, and let us rule together until we leave this world.

Nate leaned in, and we kissed as the pack erupted in claps and screams of congratulations.

We held hands as we jumped off of the table that had been fashioned into a stage.

Nate wrapped his arm around me and I leaned my head contently against his shoulder as we went to go talk to pack members.

There were still a lot of things that needed to be fixed, but for now, we had each other, and that was enough.
