I smoothed down my black dress and frowned at my reflection. Jenna had wanted to help with my make up, but I explained that I didn’t want to turn up to a funeral with make up on. I shrugged and applied a little foundation quickly.
“Cherry, Theo’s here,” Jenna called up the stairs.
I picked up my small handbag and headed down into the hall.
“Hey Cher,” he murmured. I looked him over and my breath caught in my throat.
“You look amazing,” I breathed.
He chuckled. “Back at ya, beautiful.”
I smiled and kissed him. His soft lips feathered over mine quickly before brushing along my cheek, and I sighed happily.
My phone rang.
“hi Colin,” I said.
“hey, umm, Cher… I may have forgotten something,” he admitted.
“What?”
“I forgot to ask where the nearest airport is.”
“Denver.”
“Shit.”
“But there’s a runway in the backyard.”
He was silent for a moment. “Excuse me?”
“There’s a runway in the backyard… You know, for planes to land on?”
“In the back garden?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Jenna, why’s there a runway in the garden?” I asked her.
She shrugged. “We had the plane, and we had enough to put one in… Why not?”
I grinned. “Why not?” I repeated to Colin. “They already had a plane.”
“But there’s an airport in Denver…”
“But you’d have to drive all the way over form Denver.”
He sighed. “Alright, alright. I’ll be there soon.”
I hung up. “Gee. You’d think he’d never seen a backyard runway before.”
Theo grinned, biting his lip. “Not many people have them.”
“Yeah, we’re special,” Josh said, coming down the stairs. “And I still can’t believe you ditched me this morning.”
“Josh, she’s going to a funeral, don’t be rude,” Jenna chastised.
He pouted. “Sorry.”
“I’m sorry… I think I should’ve gone, I feel weird,” I muttered.
“Kinda full of energy?” Theo asked.
“Yeah… How d’you know?”
“I kind of feel the same right now.”
“Me and you are going for a very, very long run when we get back from this,” I told him.
“We’re not gonna be back until, like, 7 o’clock,” he reminded me.
“Can we go for a run after?” I asked Jenna.
She smiled. “Yeah, sure. Just stay on the ranch.”
I nudged Theo. “See?”
“Fine, we’ll go for a very, very long run. But I am not doing it in this suit.”
