The Selwyn's was a very well-known family a part of the Sacred Twenty-Eight. They had deep rooted ties to all of the famous pureblood families, along with a Slytherin legacy that even rivaled the Malfoys, and they had a daughter, whom they loved dearly, who was going to continue that legacy. But their daughter, Maeve Selwyn, wasn't like the Selwyn's before her. Maeve wasn't blindly following in her parent's footsteps. She saw the darkness in her family's doings, and to put it lightly, she wasn't a fan. The word mud-blood left a sour taste in her mouth. The Dark Arts she was forced to learn left her head aching. None of it felt right. The young Selwyn was desperately trying to find ways to better herself, but from the constant pressure of her parents and peers, and the way she was looked down upon because of her parents and house affiliation, Maeve felt herself slowly giving up. She couldn't tell if it was better to fall into the Slytherin-pureblood stereotype, or to be alone and at battle with herself for the rest of her days.
Maeve may have been at battle with her upbringing and her growing egalitarian views, but there was one thing Maeve couldn't stand, and that was bullies. This aggravation of hers, caused Maeve to send a nasty hex towards Millicent Bulstrode when she caught sight of her dorm mates's wand trained at the back of an unsuspecting Hufflepuff. The saved Hufflepuff, Lara Wilkes, who turned around at the commotion, saw the conflict in Maeve's dark eyes and decided to take her under her wing. With Lara's help, Maeve now had a better supportive shoulder to lean on.
In one year, Maeve's life is turned around. She no longer lives with inner turmoil and is no longer alone. She had her new best friends, Lara and Vivian (who Maeve ended up taking a bludger for during a very dirty Quidditch match), by her side. They supported each other with everything they had. The three of them became the light of Hogwarts with their loud laughter and bright smiles. The trio stood up for Luna Lovegood when people got too harsh with her, and helped Ginny Weasley ask out her crush and practiced with her on the Quidditch pitch. The trio, then became a quintet, and Maeve went from feeling completely alone to being surrounded by love.
However, Maeve wasn't done with her hero phase. When Ginny tells Maeve and the rest of the quintet about an upcoming secret organization run by Harry Potter. Maeve jumps right in. It's time that the Selwyn's did something good for once, and what's more beneficial than learning how to defend yourself with non-dark spells, while also having the opportunity to get closer to a very smart and very pretty girl.

— I also think members of the quintet should not all be straight. obviously, maeve and hermione aren't, but I think it'll be great for the other girls to also be part of the LGBTQ+
— lara is in hufflepuff and vivian is in ravenclaw. I can also see lara as a year older than maeve and vivian a year younger than her -but that's up to the author-
— maeve is a member of the DA through ginny and luna. someone can say something bad about her in the DA meeting because she's a Slytherin, but the quintet stands up for her and tells them all that if they have a problem with maeve, they'll have to deal with the four of them first
— She runs into Hermione crying in the girls bathroom and wants to go hex whoever hurt her, but Hermione says no, Maeve still wants to help. So, she tells Hermione that it's time to make friends with people who understand bathroom breakdowns, and invites her to hangout with the quintet for the next Hogsmeade trip.
— Maeve has looked up to Hermione for quite a while. She's smart, fights back, and stands up for house elves and half-breeds. And after seeing Hermione's spell work at the DA she starts to like her. at first she just thought she was cute but then Maeve's like "waittttt I really like her"
— cannot change her last name because it's a pureblood name, but you can change her first name
— maeve is a slytherin fifth year
— there's pining on maeve's side because hermione likes ron, but maeve and hermione are endgame
— maeve and her friends go with harry to the ministry. when she's there she sees her parents as death eaters. her parents call her over, but maeve chooses to stay with her friends and protect them. this causes maeve to be disowned
— can change title. I thought of "hero complex" because maeve chooses to do the heroic thing over and over again so she can stay separate from her parents. I also thought of "girl gang" from how close all the girls are. can also create a whole different title than those
