"Nas, just say yes! What's so complicated about this?" Miracle groaned while sitting upside down on my living room couch, with her weird ass.

"It's just so sudden. Like, what if this is a part of some bet or somethin'?" I asked.
"You watch too many movies," Jay shook his head while tapping away on his phone, probably texting his girlfriend.

"Guys. . . It's Genesis David," I reminded them.
"Nas. . . It's a guy that's been interested in you for a long time," Jazz mocked me while sitting down in my dad's recliner.
"Just call him or pick up when he calls. . . Whatever you do, just talk to him," Miracle said.
"And say what?" I asked.

"Hey, Genesis. I've been thinkin' and, uh. . . I wouldn't mind going on a date some time. I also wouldn't mind going to prom with you. I also wouldn't mind joining you at Jazz's after party and possibly losing my V-Card to you," Miracle pretended she was me.

I rolled my eyes as my friends snickered.
"First of all, I am a good Christian girl who--"

"Yeah yeah yeah, we know. You're a saint," Jay waved me off, his eyes never leaving the screen of his phone.

"Seriously though, guys. . . I've never dealt with this before. I've watched all of you guys get played, play others, and much much more. How do I know he's not gonna' do the same to me? I'm scared of being taken advantage of in a relationship, okay? I'm scared of ending up hurt. What if he's trying to play me? This could all be a joke. Why else would he be trying to suddenly make us a thing? It's our senior year; we are all about to be completely separate in a matter of months. Y'all know that I've always only been seen as that dark ass girl that can draw, and that's it. What would Genesis David want to do with me?" I asked.

"G's a good guy, Nas. He wouldn't play you. . . It's not in his DNA to play anybody," Jazz assured me.
"Yeah, and you know that you're more than just a darkskin girl that can draw," Miracle added.

"But--"
My phone began vibrating on the coffee table.

I stared at it for only a moment before Miracle snatched my phone from the table. She answered the call without hesitation, and I couldn't do anything but watch in horror as she talked to Genesis.

"Yeah, she's right here. . . Yeah, still actin' like a wuss. . . I know. She looked very pretty today," she smirked at me. "Oh. You want me to tell her? I got'cha."

"Hey, Nas. G said that you looked very beauti-- I'm sorry. He said you looked phenomenal today," she relayed his message, making me blush.

"He also would prefer to talk to you himself," she raised an eyebrow.
I sighed deeply as she held the phone out towards me.

I reluctantly took the phone and crept up the stairs to my room. If I was gonna' talk to him, I didn't need an audience. I closed the door and took a slow breath before placing the phone to my ear.

"Hello?" I let the word slide easily between my lips.
"Wow, I never realized how soothing your voice is until now," he spoke through the line, and I, honestly, could say the same about him.

"I've only said one thing," a small laugh left my lips.
"Well, now you've said six things, and that's all the proof I need for my statement," I could just imagine the smile playing upon his lips.

Another laugh pushed through my lips as I sat down on my bed.
For the next ten minutes, we talked and I found myself pacing my room only to end up sitting or laying on my bed several times.

By the third time I was laying amongst my pillows, he had brought up the slow dance we shared in eighth grade again. It felt good to know that I wasn't the only one to remember every little detail of that moment.
