"Come on, baby. Let's put the angel on top," I called Steph over once I had the lights wrapped around the tree. He had helped put ornaments on the tree and was currently watching the cake and cookies I made bake. He was set on putting the angel on top, but I guess he was so excited for the sweets that I had prepared that finishing off the decoration of the tree was no longer a priority.

After a moment of waiting for him to come over, I decided to make my way over to him. He was crouched down in front of the oven, where the light was on so you could see inside of it. Patiently and attentively, he watched the treats rise slowly.

"Stephen, you know I need your help," I reminded him.
"Oh, sorry, Mommy," he quickly got up and grabbed my hand. He walked me back over to the tree and grabbed hold of the angel.
"Be careful. Okay, honeybun?" I looked into his eyes.
He nodded before I lifted him up in my arms.

He put the angel on top of the Christmas tree with ease before I set him back down with a groan. "My lil' man is growing up. You gettin' heavy on me, son," I smirked.
"It's 'cause I eat my veggies," he beamed before beginning to flex his little muscles.

I laughed. "That's right," I kissed his forehead before connecting the lights to an outlet, making the entire tree light up.

"Wow, Mommy," he gasped in awe at the sight.
"I know, baby. Isn't it beautiful?" I smiled.
"Uh-huh," he nodded.

Stephen stared in enchantment for several moments before the doorbell rang. I made my way over to the door, glancing back at my son once more and letting out a slight laugh at how amazed he looked. I opened the door to find Lesane standing with his usual bouquet of roses and lilies.

"What's up, Sunny? You good, baby?" he gave that beautiful, contagious smile.
"What do you want, L?" I leaned against the doorway so that I completely blocked the space that the open door allowed.

I knew that if he peeked into my home and caught sight of my son, there'd be no way that I could keep him from coming inside. All he had to do was shout: what's up, lil' man? and Steph would come running. He would beg for me to let Lesane stay and hang out with him. It's happened countless times, but I refuse to allow it anymore.

"I came to see you and lil' man. Christmas is comin' up, and I thought we'd start the season off right," he insisted.
"Lesane, go home and—"

"Lesane?!" Stephen shouted before I heard his quick little footsteps approaching. I cursed to myself, wishing that I had spoken softer. The door seemed to widen itself as Lesane forced his way inside and opened his arms so Steph could run right into them.

"Yo, what's up, Steph?" Lesane grinned while picking him up.
"Hey, Lesane," Stephen smiled back.
"How you been, man?" L walked further into my home and toward the living room.

Just like that, Lesane was back over here playing daddy and getting under my skin. I stood in the kitchen seething as I watched them talk and watch the marathon of Christmas specials that was on.

It had been months since I broke things off with Lesane for good, yet he was still here acting as if we were a thing. It was great that Steph had a father figure now, but I refused to watch him get attached to a man who'd end up abandoning him. Soon enough, Lesane would get it through that thick, bald ass head that we aren't gonna' happen anytime soon, and he'd be running back to his ex-fiancée.
