I sighed deeply at the sight of another missed call from Genesis.

We've been playing phone tag for the last two or three months. It was crazy. We went from talking everyday, multiple times a day to missing calls and texts. Whenever we did talk, we'd make plans to see each other. The plan was always the same too.

One would road trip to the other's campus on a Friday afternoon. We'd meet up that night and spend the weekend together. The next month or so, it'd be the other person's turn to visit.

It, of course, never worked out because we'd become swamped with work or projects. It was so frustrating to make promises that wouldn't even be a sure thing, as they should be. It was also disappointing that every time we'd finally get our shit together, something would pop up and serve as another roadblock.

Genesis was right when he said that long distance was easier said than done, but I didn't expect to miss him as much as I do. At least three times a week, I'd stay up all night just thinking about him and brainstorming things I needed to do in order to make my relationship a priority once again. . . and I wished that he was doing the same.

I sat up, my fingers running through my hair before finding my earbuds.

Once my headphones were in, I returned his call with that of Facetime. He picked up just as I was about to hang up. I smiled slightly, watching the call connect.

"Hey, baby," he greeted with that cute ass grin on his face.
"Hey," my smile instantly spread wider on my face.

"Sorry I've been missing all your calls and stuff. I've just been so busy," I shook my head.
"It's whatever, Nasira. Shit's been crazy over here too. . . I've just been missin' you," he shrugged.
"I've missed you too, Genesis," I sighed.

It grew quiet as he glanced over at something else.

"You wanna' meet up this weekend?" I inquired.
He sighed deeply and shook his head.

"It's not gonna' happen anyway, baby girl," he wouldn't look at me.
"It's worth a try," I pushed my unruly hair out of my face.
"How long have we been trying, Nasira? Honestly, babe," he was suddenly very pessimistic.

"Well, I've been thinkin' that we could--"
"I'm busy this week, Nas," he finally looked back at the screen, annoyance clear on his face.
"Oh. . . well, next weekend--"

He sighed obnoxiously loud and deep once more.

"Okay, look. I get that you're frustrated, and this long distance relationship isn't helping, but at least I'm trying. Okay? I don't need you putting your negativity on me and shutting down every little thing I say. Usually, relationships are mutual in that each person gives the same amount of effort," I quickly grew tired of his rude attitude.

"Who said I wasn't putting in the same amount of effort, and who said I wasn't trying too?" he questioned.
"I never said that, Genesis," I shook my head.
"You implied it, Nasira. . . I'm tryin' just like you are, a'ight? I'm putting in effort too. . . Shit is just crazy right now. Not that you would understand," he shook his head.
"Of course I wouldn't understand! You don't even talk to me, G!" I defensively spoke.
"Maybe I'd talk to you if you didn't ignore me every time I called you," he replied.
"I never purposely decline your calls, if that's what you're saying, and I always call you right back! You're the one who never answers. . . Guess I know why now, huh? You decline my calls," I nodded.

"Man, whatever. . . You probably got a whole boyfriend over there. That's what's keepin' you busy all the time," he mumbled.
"Genesis, get real," I scoffed while rolling my eyes.
"I'm being real, Nasira. I'm dead serious, right now," he stated.
