Letters to Yuzuru

"Think of it as... my dying wish"

Your computer rings and you slowly wake up. You look at the time and see that it's 8am. You don't get up because you're so tired. Then, reality hits you and you realize who's probably calling. You quickly jump out of bed, almost trip and run over to your laptop and you see it is Yuzuru that's calling. You accept and before your webcam loads, you quickly fix your hair so you don't look like a hot mess. Your heart is racing as it connects. Then, you see him. His face doesn't show any expression at first and you first think something is wrong, but then the biggest smile spreads across his face. You don't say anything either, but smile as well.

"So, I won" is the first thing that comes out of his mouth. You can't help but laugh at his bluntness.

"I saw" You say and he laughs a little.

"Really? Then you probably saw how bad I did on my free" He says while frowning a bit

"Don't say that... You just didn't do as good as normally. It was still a beautiful program" You say truthfully

"It just seemed like everyone was having an off day. Not just me. I was too confident going into the free. I should've been more focused" He says and you just nod

"Oh, wait! I almost forgot! Here's my medal!" He says as he reaches down and grabs it.

He shows it to you and you smile.

"Wow, it looks really shiny" is the first thing you say

He doesn't say anything, but laugh a little.

"So, how does it feel to finally have it?" You ask

"Feels weird. It's alot heavier than I thought. I'm just so happy that it's mines"

"Well you earned it" You say

"Thanks.. Oh yeah and I just wanted to tell you that I decided that I am going to compete in worlds"

Did he remember the promise?

"Uhhh.. Wha- Why?" You stutter

"Just because I feel like I have to redeem myself. I'm not trying to win double titles, but I'm just trying to prove that I deserved to win this medal" He says while holding up his medal

"Oh... that's why.." You say, feeling a little disappointed that he didn't mention the promise.

"Yeah.. do you think I should compete in worlds?" He asks

Yes!

"Up to you. I know you must feel tired, but if that's what you want. It's going to be really hard to train for a month and compete again. You're going to be under a lot of pressure" You warn him

"I know. Why do you think I should compete in worlds?" He ask

"Umm.. I don't know" You say and laugh

"Oh. Okay" He says and you suddenly feel the mood drop a little.

"Well, I'll let you go since I know you're probably really busy. I'll see you when you come back to Canada" You say and he nods and waves and you close your laptop.

You walk up the porch and knock on the door. Mrs. Hanyu opens the door and like always, you bow to her.

"Hello, Mrs. Hanyu. Long time no see" You say as you hug her

"I know. How have you been?" She asks you

"In all honesty, I haven't been feeling so good" You say to her truthfully

"Oh no... Does that mean?"

"I'm not sure. I mean the doctor gave me until April and it's almost March"

"There is always miracles" She says and lets you in.
