"Free room cleaning! No charge! Volunteer service hours!"

I sat up carefully, not wanting to get a head rush, and wiped my eyes.

"Today only!"

Who the fuck gets up at 7 am to do this?

I rolled back, now laying on my back. "I'll take it! 3 PM."

"Okay, we got one! Anyone else?"

"Get off my property!"
"Grandma needs her beauty sleep!"
"Boy, ya better have a permit!"
"Like you'd actually be able to do anything!"

So....that's a nope.

"Free room cleaning, miss. I'll ring your front door." He walked along the side of the house.

I ran my fingers through my hair. "Wait, no!"

Too late.

"Matthew! What are you doing here?" My mom was staring at him in shock.

Matthew smiled at her. "Just here to clean out Anna's room."

"I'll get the condoms, sweetheart!"

Dad started racing upstairs.

"Don't worry, Mrs. Lopez, I got it covered." Matthew winked at my mom. "Come on, Annabelle."

He grabbed my arm and took me upstairs, discreetly wiggling his fingers by my underarm.

We came to my room and I shut the door.

"What do you want?" I hissed.

"A second chance."

"Matthew, are you crazy? You had a chance. You blew it. You kept secrets from me....you lied.....you....you....." My voice broke. "You betrayed me! You wouldn't tell me what was wrong or what happened to you!"

"I know, I know Anna-"

"Do not call me that! You lost that privilege years ago."

He sighed. "Can I ever win with you, Annabelle?"

"No. You walked out on us. You left. Like a coward. Like..."

"Like?"

"Like my grandfather on my mother! You didn't stay in contact!"

"Annabelle, I'm sorry."

"Ya know what? Fine! I'll give you a chance. Not for you. For my mother. If you screw it up.....you'll be the one that's screwed."
