"You look stunning Nena, are you sure you still wanna be just friends?" Cole asks, smirking at my narrowed gaze.

"Thank you for the compliment Cole, I'm choosing to ignore the rest."

Cole laughs loudly and squeezes my arm as he moves away from me and around our hotel room, gathering his phone and wallet for tonight.

He had been here for a week now, and was going back tomorrow evening. But tonight, was the night of the charity function.

Cole had really surprised me how easily he fit in with my friends, he even suggested we should see them more, whenever we were a little bored around the house. It was super nice, and a lot easier than what I thought it was going to be.

The week went really quick and It was so great to show Cole all my favourite places in town, we visited so many food places, honestly, I wasn't sure my dress was still going to fit but luckily it did. My hair was down my back in soft curls and my face was lightly swept with makeup, wanting to keep it pretty natural instead of glam tonight.

We all went to the beach one day and it was really nice to spend so much consistent time with everyone. But quite frankly, every time Jackson and I saw each other again this week, with our friends, it just felt so off.

He was there, we would talk, he would even fill me in with how he was and how therapy and AA were going. But he wouldn't ever be left alone with me, would never come and seek me out, not unless I was with others.

For example, after the beach we all went back to Max's and Jackson came and sat next to me on the bench, our legs pressed together, my heart pounding.

But no acknowledgment of the fact we were still feeling this way.

He only came because Cole and Max were opposite me. And it wasn't even like he was pushing me away, he was so open to me, to talking and chatting, to begrudgingly finding out about my life in St Patricks.

About what I was going to do after I finished home schooling, whether I had exams or whether it was all done online. He told me at the university he had applied for, how he loved it, but had forgotten about it in all the darkness.

How he was expecting a letter to say yes or no any day now.

I had no idea what was going on. Whether he was pulling away, treating me like a friend or was just ignoring everything that had happened between us previously.

But I would catch him looking at me a little too long, for him to have forgotten.

It was still there, but now instead of little touches, or little secret kisses. There was nothing. And it was driving me insane.
