Tabish was shook awake by Ammi Jaan, the old woman looming over his sleeping figure in the cold and dreary hallway.
It wasn't often Ammi Jaan would leave her chair and walk around the house, but everytime she would, Tabish could always find Daneen right by her side, gripping her arm. Half the time Ammi Jaan could do without a cane, but the sight of it today was no less of a surprise for Tabish.
"Didn't you have a test, Tabish?"
Tabish blinked and glanced at his watch. 10:27 AM.
"I missed it."
"Daneen wouldn't be too happy about that."
"Would she be happy with anything I do?"
Ammi Jaan looked out into the hallway, but said nothing.
Tabish got on his feet. "Ask her to come out. If not for me then at least for you. She can't lock herself in her room forever."
Ammi Jaan met his eye. "Who do I call for in an empty room?"
