"nan, if dad asks where i am, tell him i'm outside" i let lisa know before walking out the front door to the back lawn.

i lay down on the damp grass and stare up at the clear sky littered with stars. it's so clear out here, without all the building and street lights and noice.

it's so much more peaceful out here then in l.a. i love l.a don't get me wrong, but it's all i've known. i've never left that city until a few months ago and even then it's only to come here. i haven't seen the rest of the world yet.

the sound of leaves moving next to me pulls me out of my thoughts as i turn my head to see my dad laying next to me on the grass.

i smile softly before looking back up at the stars in the sky, crossing my feet.

"penny for your thoughts?" chris asks after a few seconds of silence

"do you ever wonder, what else is out there?" i ask

"what do you mean? in like what context?" he turns his head to look at the side of my face.

"like in the mcu, there's asgard and so many different planets with actual life on them. do you think we have that here?" i finally pull my eyes away from the stars to turn my head and look at my dad laying beside me

"well i mean maybe. what do you think?" he turns the question into me and i straighten my head, looking back up at the sky

"i think there has to be. it just wouldn't make sense if there wasn't. i mean, earth can't be the only planet in our whole galaxy or universe with life on it. i don't believe it for once second. humans can be so stupid so there's no way we are the only life like creature out there" i spill

"well you have put a lot of thought into this" chris chuckles "but i guess your right"

"same with the ocean, we haven't even explored 10 percent of it. humans can't, it's physically impossible but what if there are non human like creatures who live at the bottom that are able to live even with the crushing water pressure, like they are made for that conditions" i turn my head to face him once again and i can see the questioning look on his face

"you really like to question things don't you?" he laughs and i giggle as well

"well, i read a lot of books in the library" i sigh "the stars don't look like this in l.a"

"i know it's sad, i wish they did." chris sighs looking up at the sky

"me too, i feel like it would make people more grounded if they could see the stars. i'm not sure how how that would work but people in l.a are just so self absorbed and rude" i spill out my thoughts as the come into my head

"i think you're right. people can be assholes sometimes" chris says and i gasp

"language!" i laugh as i playfully smack his arm as he laughs as well.

we lay in silence for the rest of the night just watching the stars and enjoying the silence.

"i'm going to go back in, don't stay out to much longer" dad says before getting up and walking back into the house.

i wonder what it would be like if chris had not found me that day on the ledge. would i still be here living with mary, being sad and put down. would i have jumped? gone in that freezing cold water knowing no one would miss me.

what did i do wrong? i mean, i tried pleasing my biological parents. i acted like a boy, i dressed like a boy i tried to do everything in my power to make them proud but no matter what i did they hated me.

then they finally gave me up and mary hated me even more which i didn't think was possible. she made me do all the work but never gave me credit and she acted like i was the worst person to ever exist.

after a while of thinking i get up off the cold wet grass and walk inside, seeing that it's already 11:15.

i go to the bathroom to brush my teeth then i go back to my room to get changed into a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt to sleep in. i walk back out of my room to go and find dodger so he can come sleep in my bed.

i find him in the living room sleeping on a dog bed. "dodger, come on" i whisper as i tap my legs so he gets up and follows me.

i lead him to my room and the dog jumps up onto my bed and gets comfortable in the corner. i kiss his head before walking back out of my room to try and find chris to say goodnight.

i think nan and grandpa went to sleep already and scott went out with a few friends i think. i walk to chris room and knock on the closed door

"come in" i hear him whisper shout from the other side of the door.

i push the door open and walk into his dimly light room.

"i just came to say goodnight" i smile softly

"okay goodnight darling, go right to sleep because tomorrow's a bay with lots of food" he laughs and i chuckle

i walk over to him and give him a small hug. "i will. goodnight dad"

i walk out of his room and shut the door behind me before walking into my room and crawling into bed with dodger

"goodnight puppy" i kiss his head before closing my eyes and drifting off to sleep.
