Day’s perspective
“Eden!” I cry, reaching for my younger brother.
“Daniel! Guess what? I got accepted for the Batalla engineering—Daniel are you all right?” His grin fades, as if he can sense my fear. I pull Eden close to me.
”Eden, oh Eden. I’ll never let June hurt you.”
“June? But June would never hurt me…”
“She fooled all of us. She’s a monster, I remember it all now.”
“Why would she want to hurt me? She loves you, Daniel. It’s been 10 years but I get the feeling she does. Besides, if she wants to harm me she would have done that long ago.”
“No, Eden. She’s evil, I’m sure of it,” I say but he breaks away from my embrace.
“Daniel, are you okay? I think you should go for a check-up…”
“Eden, I swear I’m perfectly fine. But we’re not staying here, I will see the Elector myself tomorrow. In the meantime, if June comes, don’t open the door for her, okay? I want to be there for you all day, but I can’t, so promise me that, okay? We’ll move as soon as possible.”
“Okay. But you should really go and see Doctor Susan, that memory of yours is a false one, I’m sure.”
I ruffle his hair gently. “I saw her this morning, kiddo. I’m perfectly fine.”
All of a sudden, something flashes on a JumboTron nearby. It was gone so fast, I doubt anyone saw except for me. Perhaps it was just meant for my eyes. It was in a kind of code I have never seen before, but I surprise myself when my mind interprets it instantly, as if someone input the code into my mind.
It read ‘Tomorrow four-oh-five pm, at the alley near your apartment’.
I look at Eden, determined to protect him at all costs.
