Day’s perspective

“We shall resume the plan like the last time—rebelling from within. We have 15 people of ours in the military, 8 in medical, and tomorrow 2 will join the newly-opened MSRD, led by our own—Miss Chase. Luckily, all of them will be given the drugs we have been using, that will make them immune to the lie detector tests. I am going to pass around lists of people in the departments that are ours to those in the Republic’s departments, so you have an idea of who you can trust and pass messages too. Also, small specialised gauzes to scrub away your marks when necessary,” Says a representative, Mr Dupree as lists and scrubs are passed around.

Excellent, I think. “If that is all, this meeting ends the celebrations can continue.” Mr Dupree throws open the door—literally, and people pour out as I leave the building.

Outside, I find our soldiers. “Any information?” Asks Nikolai.

“This are the list of Combatants in our armies. And this is the scrub that can erase the marks. To have the marks back, I think the same material or substances can be used, and with the marks back there can be evidence. Also, a Combatants’ representative is Mr Dupree, and I asked him, he is the Princeps’ cousin.”

Nikolai nods. “Great job, Day. The Combatants in our armies will be stripped of their posts and taken in for questioning. I will send the scrubs to the research departments, and inform the Princeps of her cousin’s betrayal.”

“Okay. Where’s June?”

“She has been brought back safely by soldiers,” Nikolai tells me, but I feel as though something is wrong, like something has happened to June.

“Do you know the names of those soldiers?” I feel goose bumps on my arms.

“Yes, why?”

“Are… are they in the list?” I ask. Nikolai checks, and swears.

He replies that they are just as I feel a vibration from my paper clip ring.

“June’s been captured.”
