Now presenting *Chapter 23 of Hidden Blood*---

Our eyes were still locked, we were still in our own little world but when I heard coughing, I looked behind Dimitri, and of course it was Isabel.

“Dominika?” Isabel was such and impatient little- “Are we gonna get started?” She put a hand on her hip and I wanted to put some distance between Dimitri and I.

Did I want to though really? I almost groaned, ‘This is all so confusing!’ I want him to be a father, but do I want him to be my… What? Husband? I’ve never really believed in the ‘sacred union’ of marriage, thought I am getting to that age and maybe having a ring on my finger would look nice. I… I – I just don’t know!

I wish Lissa could just compel Dimitri to tell me what he wants and then force him to forget! It would all be so much simpler… I thought.

Dimitri’s eyes followed me but I didn’t look back. “Yeah start stretching,” he said like his mind was distracted and focused on something else. Isabitch nodded and started bending over at the waist and stretching her legs out.

Rae was leaning up against the tree, “Well,” she smirked, “that was interesting. I had fun, what about you?” I knew exactly what she was talking about and I pursed my lips trying to hide my smile.

“We are not discussing this,” I picked up my bag and I motioned to the direction of the house with my head to Rae.

“What was that?” asked Rae.

“I have no idea what you are talking about,” I answered, a half smirk on my face .

“Oh, come on you two had the full on puppy dog look in your eyes. The twinkle that came from the heavens, everything!” She laughed and lightly pushed me with her elbow. “You’re the one that told me to be more observant! Now I am! So, spill it!”

“I know that Dimitri is their father,” I was obviously talking about our kids, that was a no brainer and she could tell. “I just don’t know if I want to be in a relationship with him again. I don’t know if he want to be in a relationship with me again! It’s all so confusing my head is starting to hurt!”

Rae swallowed and stayed quiet. I could tell she was thinking about what to say. “Well, if I were in your shoes, and I know that he hurt you,” I didn’t like it when someone pointed out when I was weak or flawed but she held up a hand to stop me, “- honey I saw it all over the vomit you threw up when you had morning sickness – if I were in you’re shoes… I would give him a second chance.”

I look over at her with wide eyes. “Why?” I ask my mouth hanging open. She reached up and closed it.

“Because people should get second chances, even if they don’t deserve them,” Rae shrugged. “Like I said, it’s just what I would do, you don’t have to take my advice or anything.”

Her words stuck with me, and I thought them over. I reached out my arm and touched her elbow, pulling her to a stop.

She looked at my face, wondering what was wrong. I smiled and said, “I need to admit something to you.”

Rae raised her eyebrows at me not surprised. “Go ahead,” I knew she knew I had been hiding something, but that would no longer be the case.

“I think you know that you are one of the most cherished person in my life,” I start to tear up a little bit already. “I think you know that I have needed you in certain times, and that I have needed you’re help raising the kids. But, putting all that aside, you have also made me laugh and have been a real friend – sister to me and that is something I can never express how grateful I am.

“What I can express and point out though is how Lissa is also a sister to me, and that we all have secrets. I need you to be calm when I tell you this and I need you to remember that difference is not good or bad, it’s just…”

“Different?” Rae looked a little lost but the corners of her lips turned up in a playful smile.

“Yeah,” I said, “different. A lot of difference is about to be shared and you are maybe like the only person on Earth that knows about us and won’t be food.”

Her eyes went huge, “YOU’RE CANNIBALS!?”

“No!” I shouted punching her in the shoulder, “No! We aren’t cannibals, we’re just sort of…” Just say it… “We are…” Just say it… “Kind of…” Please don’t think I’m too much of a freak, I pray to God, please… “Umm….” Just say it! “We’re Vamp-“

“ROSE LOOK OUT!” she screamed, just as I get tackled to the ground.
