19. forgive and forget

nini parted her mouth, looking at ricky in surprise and slight fear of what he was going to say or what was going to happen

"hey," he breathes, breaking the stillness that had overcome them

"h-hi." she croaks out, staying where she stood, not looking into his eyes

"you okay? ej told me you weren't feeling well..." ricky begins

nini nodded slowly "it's just a little thing that came up."

ricky took a deep breath and held the bag up "i have all your comfort foods, some cartoons and-" he pauses and reaches into the bag, taking out another hoodie "a new comfort hoodie,"

nini manages a small smile at the sight of him like this; they always did things like this for each other when one wasn't feeling well.

"can i come in?" he asks hesitantly

nini nodded and opened the door wider for him to walk in, leading him to the living room couch as ricky put in the cartoon on (the flintstones)

they both sat down, a few meters away from each other than they usually are when like this, nini trying as hard as she could to keep her eyes on the screen but they continuously wandered back to ricky, who couldn't help doing the same

he sighs after a few minutes and presses pause, turning to face her "we have to talk about it."

nini felt her stomach hurt and nodded "yeah, we do."

"i'm-"
"i-"

they both stop and nini nods for him to speak

"i'm sorry." he begins "and-yesterday-it shouldn't have happened-any of it. the 'forgetting best friend day' and the-other thing..."

nini nodded "thank you." she muttered "and-you're right. the-other thing-shouldn't have happened. i wasn't-i was sad and upset and-it was-"

"we were caught up in the moment"
"just a moment."

the two let out a small smile and ricky laughs nervously

"this is weird."

nini nods in agreement as she chuckles "really weird."

"should we just-move on and forget it?" ricky asks her

nini nodded "oh yes,"

they both exhale deeply and nini beams at him, taking the food out of the bags

"did you get any twirls?"

"there weren't any," he groans in annoyance, nini gasping in shock

he chuckles at her reaction and her excitement as she stands up and takes the hoodie, putting it on

"you already have one-"

"but now it's extra comfort!" she exclaims with a grin, ricky shaking his head with a smile as they look back at each other, nini sitting down right next to him as his smile fades

"i'm really sorry about forgetting yesterday." he says with a small frown

nini looks at him reassuringly and shakes her head "don't worry about it. you're making up for it now."

he brings her in for a hug and nini gladly accepts it as she rests her chin on his shoulder, letting out a breath as they pull apart

"now, how was the date with maya?!" she sings, smirking as ricky blushes slightly

"i didn't really make a huge deal, it was sort of just-eating then asking her to be my girlfriend-"

"have you met maya?" nini questions "a food date is the best thing that could happen."
