Even though they had had a promising interaction in California, Spencer still found it confusing what him and Gia were. They didn't talk about it much. Although they called and spoke with each other every day between his work schedule and her lab work, nothing much had changed.

In every spare moment he had he thought over and over again about what his next move would be. He was severely overthinking it.

In fact, he was doing right then. Rossi was holding a New Year's Eve party. Spencer sat at the makeshift bar throwing back drink after drink. He didn't care what it was. He was hoping his choices would become clearer in his drunken state, than they had been in his sober state. He was chugging what he thought was whiskey, when Derek came and slapped him on the back.

"Reid. Slow down. I thought drinking made you brain all fuzzy."

"That's the plan," Spencer grumbled, signalling the bartender for another.

"Hey man, what's up." Derek leaned in closer, trying to get a better look at Spencer's face. Derek was concerned. "You've been distracted since that trip to California. Did something happen at the reunion?"

"No," Spencer said, quickly.

Derek frowned.

"Nothing happened at the reunion." Spencer clarified, doing his best not to lie. He knew Derek would know if he lied.

"So, after it then?" Derek speculated.

Spencer nodded, running his finger around the rim of the glass that the bartender had slid to him. "I don't know what to do. I feel lost. What am I supposed to do now?"

Derek stared at Spencer intently, urging him to go on.

"You were right Morgan. I like her. I more than like her. How can someone make you feel like that? Like you're are the only two people that exist in the world when you are together. I don't know if I love her. I don't know what love is. I have seen it. I have read about it. But I can only imagine it's like this. I can't imagine a future without her. A world without her in it. Without her smile. Without her heart. Do you think I'm mad? I barely know her, right?" Spencer's eyes were wild with desperation.

"You're not mad Reid." Derek assured Spencer. "Reid, have you tried tell her, instead of this glass of whiskey."

Spencer expression morphed into a frown. "No," he replied, almost childlike.

"My man, you should be telling her, not me. Call her." Derek picks Spencer's phone off the table and hands it to him, before walking away.

Spencer gets off is stool, glancing at his team. They are all dispersed laughing and enjoying the party. Spencer slips to the outskirts of the garden and dials Gia.

"Hi Spencer."

"Gia..ummm. Hi." He clears his throat. "What are you doing?"

"Working," she laughs. "But I wish I was doing what your doing. Sounds like you're having a great time."

"Yeah. New year's party. Gia?"

"Yeah."

"You should come. You can be my date. I'm coming to get you."

"Are you drinking? Because good luck with that. By the time I get there the party will be over."

"What do you mean?"

"I'm at Caltech," she reminds him.

"Oh yeah. Your so far away." Spencer whined and stamped his feet. "I wish you weren't so far away."

"I think you need to chug some water, my friend." Gia laughed.

"Friend?" Spencer spat out. "I don't want to be your friend."

"Umm... ouch. Why not?"

"Sorry. I didn't mean it like that. I mean that. I'm sorry for acting stupid. I'm going to go drink that water now. Goodnight." Spencer ended the call before hearing a response. "You idiot," he muttered, insulting himself. "You should have said I want to be more than friends. Ahhhh," he yelled out. "I'm going to go drink that water," he mimicked himself. "Tell her you can't stop fucking thinking about her." Spencer manically crouched on the floor, tugging his hair.
