Little Red Bird

I found a bird with a broken wing the other day.

It was the brightest shade of red I'd ever seen,

I took him home to nurse him,

But I think instead,

I brought him to a point of no return.

I got him a cage with enough room to flop around,

I fed him,

I bathed him,

And I even brushed his little red feathers every day.

We watched sunsets and sunrises together and he became my best friend.

One day I saw him flying in his cage and I thought about setting him free,

But I didn't because I knew I'd be lonely.

So, I broke his wing with my bare hands.

I knew he was in pain and it broke my heart,

But the fact that we were both together made it a little better.

Every time he got better,

I broke his wing again.

Until one day,

I couldn't take it anymore,

And I decided to set him free.

He didn't go at first then he left the cage,

He flew around the ceiling, then he flew down,

He dragged his wing as if it were broken;

He got the freedom but he didn't know how to be free.

And I think that is exactly what is going to happen to me.

I found a bird with a broken wing the other day,

It was the brightest shade of red I'd ever seen,

I took him home to nurse him,

But I think instead,

I brought him to a point of no return.
