Ash and Serena ran around the streets of Pallet town exploring multiple different spots that Ash loved as a kid. Ash took her to a few places he would sneak into so that he could look at pokémon. Ash felt very nostalgic going to some of these places. He took Serena to some beautiful spots that he would spend his time on and always had a story with each one of them. One of the locations was a place with a lot of old trees and he told the story of when he was hiding from Gary after pulling a prank on him and that was his hiding spot. Serena would always laugh at his funny stories as they ventured throughout the entirety of the outskirts of Pallet town. They were having so much fun messing around that they didn't realize that they had ran around for hours. They got hungry and made it back to Pallet town around 1 pm

"We should probably get something to eat" Serena told Ash

"I agree!" Ash said getting excited over food

"Where do we go though?" Serena asked looking around

"We could just go back home" Ash said

Serena then remembered the whole surprise party that Delia was organizing and knew that she was probably putting up the decorations right now.

"Well Delia told me that she was busy and that she couldn't be at home until later this afternoon..." Serena told Ash nervously hoping that he doesn't catch on to that lie

Just then Ash saw Gary running towards them. Ash saw Gary running like a maniac and could see that he was exhausted. Serena turned to where Ash was looking and saw the tired Gary reach them

"Why did you guys disappear like that?!" Gary shouted at them

"Well, we thought we could leave..." Serena responded nervously

"Anyway Ash, we need you so that we could compare your Greninja to other pokémon or something along those lines" Gary told Ash trying to catch his breath

Ash figured he should just go with Gary and Serena followed them around. When they reached professor Oak's lab, they were met with the professor and someone else that they didn't know.

"Gramps we are here!" Gary shouted as he entered the lab with Ash and Serena

"Thank you, Gary, for your help" Professor Oak said as he and his friend turned to face the trio

"Sorry for the interruption Ash but we would like to see your Greninja in action" Professor Oak said facing at Ash's direction

"We feel that it is so close to mega evolution that we could maybe run a few tests if you would let us" Cerise told Ash

"Sure" Ash said but then his stomach started rumbling

"I see you haven't eaten yet... not to worry we have food here" Professor Oak said leading the way for Ash and Serena to finally have their lunch which made them sigh in relief

Ash and Serena walked through the corridors of the lab and eventually reached a sitting space where they could eat. Ash was told what he needed to do and agreed to their demands. After lunch was over, they all went outside with the pokémon. Ash, Gary, Professor Oak and the soon to be Professor Cerise all witnessed Ash bond with Greninja. They used similar technology that Clemont had used to measure the sync between Ash and Greninja and were now initiating the tests. Serena watched as Ash began to train and battle with Greninja as if they were training for the Kalos league. Serena was distracted by Ash and could only look at him until she felt one of her Sylveon's feelers. She felt her Sylveon pull her and she was taken to a group of Ash's pokémon. She sat down and all of the pokémon looked to her. She felt Pancham jump on her lap and decided to brush him a little to pass the time. Little did she know that she ended up making Ash's pokémon want to get brushed as well and she made all of them fall in line. As Ash trained with Greninja and Serena played with the pokémon, they ended up staying there for 4 and a half hours.
