The first time I hooked up with a boy, I tried talking to him the next day.

He wanted nothing to do with me.

Luckily he was a friend of a friend and didn't go to school with me, so I didn't have to see him ever again. Not the dream way to loose your virginity, but I didn't really care. I was more hurt than anything.

I guess I just assumed Daniel fit that profile; the kind of guy who randomly hooks up, just to ghost you the next day.

I was fully prepared to never speak to Daniel again. That was, until fourth period Calculus.

"You ready for the test?" Dan asked once I walked into the room and sat down. All I did was nod.

"Uh, you okay?" He asked me.

I looked over and gave him a questioning look.

"Oh. Yeah, I'm fine. I just figured you didn't really want to talk to me." I answered, being honest. He looked at me like I was dumb.

"Why wouldn't I want to talk to you?" Dan wondered. I shrugged.

"Because we hooked up."

He sucked his teeth at me.

"I like you, Gabs. A lot. You not like the rest of the girls I brought home." He told me.

I smiled to myself, unable to answer since the bell rang and Mr. Davis walked into the room. He greeted us and passed out the tests, everyone visibly nervous.

I was doing fine when I heard someone snap at me. I looked over and saw Daniel staring.

"What did you get for five?" He whispered to me. I looked down at my paper.

"Two hundred three." I said.

"Ms. Steiger and Mr. Perez! Detention." Mr. Davis said from his desk. Both me and Daniel whipped our heads around.

"What?" I asked. I've never gotten detention before.

"Fuck off, man." Daniel said. Mr. Davis shook his head and stood up.

"That's two days worth of detention for you, Perez. Don't make it three." He warned.

"Whatever. Look, Gabby didn't do anything." Daniel defended. I sunk back in my chair. I've never gotten into any problems with a teacher, and I wasn't planning on starting today.

"I'm taking ten points off of both of your tests for talking. That's final." Davis finished.

I looked over at Daniel, who was already giving me a sympathetic look. I shook my head to tell him it was okay, and went back to doing my work.

When the bell rang, I turned my test in and practically ran out of the classroom. Daniel caught up to me, not waiting for me to say anything.

"I'm really sorry, Gabs. I know you've never had detention or anything, but it's really not that big of a deal." He said.

I don't know what my mind jumped to this instead of literally anything else, but I thought of Liam. I wondered what he was going to think, and how he was going to think of me, when I showed up late to work because I got detention.

"I'm not mad. It's fine." I smiled softly up at Dan, him noddding down at me. He didn't believe me, but he wasn't going to say anything.

I called my mom and told her the detention was a complete misunderstanding, which she believed. I sat in dreaded detention for a full hour, me, Dan, and two other kids. Afterwards, Dan drove me to work.

There was a parking spot right out front of the tall office building, which is very rare. So, Dan parked me to drop me off. Just as I was about to get out of the car, I heard Daniel mumble something under his breath.

"Your boss looks like a fucking dick." He said. I stopped from putting my handle on the door handle and gave him a questioning look.

"What?" I asked.

I then noticed how he was looking up at the building. I followed his gaze and saw the large window to Liam's office, where he was looking out and into the car me and Dan were in.

As much as I didn't want to think it, especially right next to Daniel, Liam looked so good, standing up there and looking down on us. His hands were in the pockets of his uniformed suit, and he looked frustrated at how late I was.

"He is." I said, making Dan chuckle. He turned back to me and we kissed each other quickly, something I noticed we were doing often.

"You gon' be okay getting home later?" He asked. I nodded my head and we said our goodbyes.

I made my way into the office, scanning in and saying hello to Jane the secretary. I went in the elevator like normal, and headed to the floor my mom and other offices were on. Blocking me from getting off of the elevator, however, was Liam standing there in my way.

"You're late." He said. I mentally rolled my eyes.

"I know. My mom told me she gave you a slip. I had detention." I confessed. He stepped into the elevator and pressed the button his office was on.

"We need to talk." Liam spoke solemnly.

The elevator ride and short walk to his office was silent, but he broke into more conversation as soon as the door was shut.

"So...detention? You don't suit me as the attention type of girl." He said. I shrugged.

"I'm not." I answered.

"Then what happened? Your mom told me it was a misunderstanding, but I don't believe that. If you ask me, it's a lame excuse." He continued. I scoffed.

"A boy I know asked me for the answer to this one question and I tried to give it to him." I explained, my arms crossed. He nodded, thought for a moment, and spoke up again.

"Was this the same boy that's been picking you up and dropping you off everywhere?" He asked. I shook my head.

"What's with the interrogation?" I asked.

I watched as Liam walked over to his desk and leaned on it, his own arms crossed now while mine were relaxed.

Why was he so hot?

"Boyfriends are a distraction with a job like this and being in school at the same time." He said. I raised my eyebrows.

"So what if he was my boyfriend? Why would it matter? My love life has nothing to do with you." I said. I tried my best to ignore the fact that Liam was slowly walking closer to me as I talked. My the end of my rambling, he was standing over me, looking down.

"Why so defensive?" He asked, just above a whisper.

I seemed to have lost my breath all of a sudden, unable to answer. He was standing so close, I could smell his cologne. It reminded me of the night I spent in Liam's guest bedroom.

"I have to get work done." I said, not looking up at his face. I knew if I did, I'd be beet red.

"Come back here when your done. I'll be driving you home tonight."
