"Great story on the foiled invasion." Billy's boss gave him a thumbs up as he walked out of the studio.

"Thanks Mr Morris," beamed the boy. "Gotta run. They're putting me through crazy classes for the series."

The silver haired man waved the raven haired boy off.

Thunder roared as lightning struck just before a red blur flew out of the fire escape.

Seconds later, the blue eyed raven dashed into the training room. Wildcat and Courtney were already there.

"Get changed and meet us in the basketball court," barked Ted.

It was ten in the morning and the day had barely begun. Already, Billy felt winded.

-------

"Today, we're working on speed, agility and stamina the old fashioned way." Ted stretched lazily on a wooden chair as he opened a wooden crate beside him.

Out flew half a dozen roosters, running wild around the enclosed basketball court.

"Old school fighters built up their stamina by catching chickens, so.. I expect the two of you to catch every one of them and put them back in the box," he winked.

"Get it!" Yelled Courtney as she tumbled over Billy. Two chickens running in opposite directions made their escape, leaving a pair of feathered teens behind.

"I bet Cap could catch them all in a second," muttered Billy.

"No powers,"chided Wildcat, clearly enjoying the show.

A rooster jumped on Wildcat. Two teens pounced on him. The chair toppled as all three went tumbling down amid the squawks.

"Got it!" Squealed Courtney from the bottom of the heap, tightly holding up a squawking rooster by its foot.

One down. Five to go

"C'mon Court. A bunch of chickens can't be that hard to outsmart," panted Billy, hands on his knees catching his breath.

Teamwork. They were good at that right?

"Good chicky..." Went the pair as they cornered yet another panicky chicken....

-------

"How are you feeling Court?" Billy sat himself beside the blonde who stared blankly out of the window.

"Tired, disturbed, I don't know. The dreams still bug me," she shuddered.

"You know I will never leave you," arm around her slender waist, he drew her closer, protectively. "You mean more to me than my secret, more than my life."

Her eyes watered. "It was so real. You were so... cold.. distant.."

His brilliant blue eyes met her soft blues, "those were dreams induced by Darkseid's poison. This is our reality."
His lips met hers, his warmth chased her fears away.

His League communicator went off. He ignored it. His phone rang.

Courtney pulled away, "you better answer it," she smiled.

"Billy, you've got trigonometry class now," Mr Terrific, current math tutor walked up to him while he was still on the phone.

"Sorry Mr Terrific. Urgent Justice League business."

"Go," Mr Terrific waved him off.

Billy walked a safe distance from them, and took a long look at his sweetheart.

"Shazam!" Lightning struck the boy. Captain Marvel stood in his place. Then he was gone in a blur of red.
