"Don't look. Six o'clock," Mary Bromfield whispered to her new friend Courtney.

The athletic boy in the Philadelphia Panthers jersey caught Mary's eye and flashed a dazzling smile.

Mary's cheeks flushed pink as she looked away.

"Who is that?" Courtney asked curiously.

"Freddy Freeman. Star player of our school team, Philadelphia Panthers, International Chess Grandmaster and he beat me in the Math Olympiad," she mumbled.

"You like him," grinned Courtney.

"Shhh... No.. I don't," her ears flushed redder.

"Yeah sure," giggled Courtney.

Mary glared at her.

"Don't worry, he's not my type," Courtney smiled smugly.

Al walked over and ruffled Courtney's hair. "It's been awhile babe," grinned the seven foot tall, massive hunk of muscle.

"Yeah. Glad you're finally out," beamed Courtney.

"Gotta go babe or I'll be late, he grinned."

"That your type?" Mary scrutinized the giant.

"Was. Past tense. We dated for a while. Then I met someone way better," beamed Courtney. "He's the sweetest guy in the universe." Her cheeks flushed at the thought of her one and only, little red cheese.

-------

The kidnappers drove off with Mary.

Courtney ducked into the alley, put on her Stargirl costume, cosmic belt and took out her rod out of her bag.

"They can't be far," Stargirl rode higher to get a better view. The grey sedan charged through the red lights.

Stargirl hurled her stars at the driver.

The car spun out of control.

Her rod generated a force field containing the car.

She ripped off the door and kick boxed out both kidnappers.

"You okay, miss?" She asked Mary as she broke the ropes binding the hostage.

"Yeah. Thanks Courtney," replied Mary.

Stargirl's eyes flew wide. "How'd you?"

Mary rolled her eyes. "Duh. Your voice. Your hair. You face. C'mon, anyone at all who knows you should know."

The cops arrived to take Mary's statement. As she spoke to them, Mary played with the half locket around her neck.

Stargirl couldn't help but notice that it looked very familiar.

-------

Billy fingered his half of the locket as he thought of the amazing father he once had.

"Daddy I wanna fly!"

His father, C. C. Batson would pick him up and swing him around facing the ground. Both of them whooping away

"Higher! Higher!" Cried Billy. It felt like flying. He wanted to touch the clouds.

"C. C. Be careful! You could drop the boy!" His mom freaked out.

"Nope," grinned C.C. as he tossed the boy and caught him, both falling back together in laughter.

"Daddy, you're Superman!"

"No, son. That name is taken. I'm," he thought for a moment. "Captain Marvelous," he saluted the boy.

"Sounds dumb," laughed Billy

"How about... Captain Marvel!"

-------

The skyscraper burned. The firefighters were overwhelmed.

Crowds gathered but no one could do much to help those stuck in the towering inferno. Buckets of water were passed down the line yet nothing seemed to dent the flames.

Billy looked on as the building started to crumble.

He had to do something. He had the power to help.. that is.. if he could survive another freaky lightning strike.

"Shazam!"

Incredible power surged through him.

He had to move fast and then he realised that everything around him froze.

Nothing moved.

Instinctively, he ran into the fiery building carrying out as many people as he could fit in his arms each time.

The stairs beneath him crumbled but instead of falling, he floated.. he could fly.

Like an eagle, he soared up, clearing each level meticulously until the building was empty.

A fiery wall fell.
He caught it with his bare hands and laid it down safely away from onlookers.

What's left was the fire.

He huffed.
He puffed.
He blew out the fire like candles on a birthday cake.

There.
Everyone's safe. He could stop speeding around like Speedy Gonzales.

As he noticed everything and everyone moving once again, he realised he was completely unharmed by the fire. Not burnt, not even hot or sweaty.
Absolutely nothing.

It was like he was completely invulnerable?

The reporters crowded around him. They wanted to know his name. The name of Fawcett's new hero.

Billy's hero was his dad.
"Captain Marvel." He replied.
