The flames burned loudly in the background, but Y/n couldn't hear anything. Her ears were ringing and her mind was growing foggy. Levi? Related to Sasha? Her eyes flickered down at the boy's body, but then back up towards the forest. She could feel her stomach churn with uncertainty and sickness.
No, no, he couldn't be gone. He can't be gone.
After her stomach's uneasiness died down, she glanced down at Levi slowly and moved her arms under him. She had to get away from this place, wherever the fire started, or whoever started it, it was growing closer by the second. Y/n braced her legs and lifted Levi's body with a strained exhale, he was so much heavier than before and with his body so limp like this, it was a struggle for her to stay standing.
Y/n staggered, wheezing as she attempted to take a step forward. She hadn't expected to make a carry like this any time soon and the smoke she had inhaled didn't help her in any way either.
"I'm gonna get you somewhere safe," she whispered, unable to meet the boy's face, "okay?" The girl erupted in a coughing fit soon after and stumbled while trudging over to a taller part of the overgrowth near the trees. Her knees began to buckle as soon as she pushed passed the leaves and then, finally, she hit the ground. Her knees took the brunt of it, but her eyes still watered with the pain that came with the impact. Her shaking arms finally released the boy and he slumped to the ground, hidden under the growth of some ferns and low plants.
Y/n glanced back to the fire. She could see the orange flames from between the trees and foliage, then she shuffled over to Levi's fallen body, "c'mon...get up, please!" She cried, her eyes still glossy from the pain, but now tears threatened to fall at any moment, "please don't leave me alone..."
As if Levi would magically hear her pleading voice, she waited for him to move. Her tired eyes watched his unmoving form for an uncertain amount of time before she herself hit the ground out of exhaustion. Her legs were tired, her mind was foggy, and her temple was pounding. Perhaps if the day only lasted minutes longer, she could've been there to save him. Y/n could feel the dryness in her throat as she turned sloppily to her side, her eyes growing heavy. She searched Levi's relaxed face one more time before succumbing to darkness, the sounds of footsteps on the forest floor going unnoticed.
