RAELYNN

"Did you sleep together?", Theodore questioned, looking at me and Mr. Marino with a deep frown.

While Mr. Marino sat there on the floor, running his hand through his messy locks of hair, ignoring his brother, I could feel extreme awkwardness seeping into my nerves.

"Uh no, I mean we didn't sleep together. It's more like we just slept on the same floor.", I replied awkwardly.

Did that even make sense?

Theodore looked at me, his brows still faintly furrowed.

"What I mean to say is that we slept um no he and I slept away uh ", I paused, realizing I was not making any sense at all.

I looked at Mr. Marino and he was staring at me calmly, his eyes shining with amusement, I guess.

"Why are you silent, Mr. Marino? Answer the question.", I said tersely, standing up, displeased.

"No, please go on, Ms. Baker, you're doing a good job in explaining.", he said calmly, standing up leisurely.

"Why should I explain? He's your brother.", I replied, irritated at how casual he is about this.

"What does being my brother have to do with this?", he questioned.

"Since he's your brother, you answer his question.", I replied.

"He addressed the question to both of us though.", he pointed out.

"But it's your responsibility as his brother to give him an explanation.", I argued.

"But the situation involves you too, so you hold as much responsibility.", he retorted.

Before I could argue, Theodore interrupted.

"I don't know what's going on here, but are you both .. like .. sort of .. da-", Theodore interrupted cautiously, but Mr. Marino cut him off.

"No.", Mr. Marino stated firmly.

My brows furrowed faintly, confused at what he was going to ask and why Mr. Marino answered 'No'.

However, I didn't probe further.

"Why are you here this early in the morning?", Mr. Marino asked his brother, looking at him.

"I have something important to discuss with you.", Theodore answered seriously.

"Let's discuss it in my study.", he replied.

Nodding, Theodore walked away after exchanging pleasantries with me.

As he walked out through the terrace entrance door, Mr. Marino looked at me.

"You can use your own phone from today, Ms. Baker.", Mr. Marino informed.

"Your brother said everything is under surveillance.", I pointed out.

"Yours won't be. I informed the surveillance team that it's one of my new personal numbers.", he replied calmly.

I nodded, understanding.

He was walking away after a curt nod, but halted a few steps away from the door when I called him.

Turning around, he looked at me.

I fisted my palm to muster my composure to speak and looked him straight in the eyes.

"Thank you.", I thanked him earnestly, my tone firm.

"For what?", he asked, raising a brow at me.

For apologizing.
