One and a half weeks later..

"Mummy, where are we going?" Kenny asked as he and I walked through the streets. Kenny's small hand in mine. We were heading to the doctor's office. I got a call from his doctor saying that they want to run a few more test.

"To see Dr. Philip." Kenny stopped walking and crossed his arms.

"What babe? Why the long face?" I bent down in front of him. He shook his head, "No. I don't wanna go."

"Kenny. You're a big boy, you can do this." I smiled. He shook his head, "No."

"What if we get a pizza afterwards?" I helped. He shook his head again.

"Churro?" Again, he shook his head.

"Smoothie?"

"Mummy." He whined.

"What do you want, Kenny? We gotta to go to this."

" Can Niall come?" I smiled at the mention of his name, "I will see baby. But it is not a for sure thing."

He grinned, "Okay! Call now!"

I dialed Niall's number after pulling my phone out.

"Hello!" He yelled.

"Hi-ya!" I returned. "What are you up too? How was practice?"

"Babe, I am so glad to hear your voice. Coach chewed me out and now I'm sitting at home, resting."

"That sounds awful. Do I need to have a little chat with your coach?" I smiled when I heard him laugh.

"It's wonderful to hear that you'd defend my honor but I think it's quite all right. What's up?"

"Well Mr. Kenneth has an appointment but-" I casted a long into my beautiful child, "He is having a rather difficult time with the idea of going. So we are standing the middle of the market."

"Well." Niall said, "I can not help to hear that. I think Mr. Kenneth might need some support. I'll send someone in ten minutes."

Kenny's eyes brightened with hope. "Very well."

"I love you Nora." He said.

"And I love you. Bye."

"What did he say?" Kenny exclaimed.

"It's a surprise." I smiled.

"Mummy. I don't like surprises." He frowned.

I poked his tiny stomach, "Liar. You love surprises. Come on, let's grab a smoothie."

"Okay," I stood up and took his small hand in mine. Niall ended up finding us at the smoothie cart.

"NIALL!" Kenny shoved his strawberry banana smoothie to me, then he ran over to the blond man in jeans and a stripe shirt. He was also wearing that stupid news boy hat that he bought last week.

"Hey buddy!" He hugged him, "Ready to go to your appointment."

Kenny groaned, Niall laughed, "Come on mate. You can do this. I'll be right there next to you."

Niall stood up and walked over to me, with Kenny in hand. "Hey babe."

"Hello, Mr. Horan. You look very charming tonight." I leaned in and kissed his cheek.

"You look ravishing as always though." He winked.

. . . .

I paced the halls, biting my thumbnail. How long had Kenny been in there? "Nora." Niall said from the chair he was sitting in, "It's going to be okay."

"How do you know? He's been in there for awhile and I haven't heard a word from anyone. I am freaking out Niall-" I started to hyperventilate, "I don't know what to do and-"

Niall stood up and put his hands on my cheeks, is blue eyes peered into mine, "It's going to be okay. It's just test-"

I tore my eyes away, "I know, but I don't want to get false hope. I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact I am about to lose my child in a matter of weeks. Weeks that I thought would be years. And when he's gone what am I going to do?" Tears weld up.

Niall looked as if he were going cry as well, "Nora. I know this all sucks. Losing people you love isn't easy. Believe me, but instead of counting the minutes on a clock enjoy each second you have with him. This is all going to be okay. It's just a test."

At that moment, Dr. Philip came out of Kenny's room. I broke away from Niall ran over to him, "What was the test about? What did it say?" The one question slipped out, "Is he going to survive?"

I felt Niall's arm go around my waist, Dr. Philip didn't answer right away. "Are you going to answer me?" I asked.

"Ms. Williams. I think we should talk in private." He looked at Niall.

I shook my head, "No. I want to know now." My heart raced and I couldn't bear to wait another second.

He nodded, "Alright, um. Will you follow me to my office then?"

I opened my mouth but Niall but in, "Lead the way."

We followed Dr. Philip to his office which was painted a soft grey. It had a large oak desk in center, a black bookcase to the right of that filled with credentials. Two chairs were in front, I sat in one and Niall sat in the other.

"Leonora-"

"Nora." I corrected.

"Nora, the test was to see how the cancer cells have been reacting without the chemo."

"Okay? And what were the results?" I returned.

He closed his eyes.

This is the moment that every parent worries about. Hearing the devastating news that your child is sick beyond saving. Every second that is filled with silence makes you go mad.

"There has been some changes." Philip spoke. I looked over at Niall and grabbed his hand. Niall took a deep breath.

"Changes how?" Niall asked the question.

"The cells have-" he sighed, "The cells have multiplied, drastically."

I felt my vision go blurry, "What does that mean?"

"Kenneth has only a few weeks before the cancer stops his-"

"Enough!" Niall yelled. I looked over at him shocked at his outburst. Niall's other hand was clenched into a fist. He has angry tears streaming down his face, "There has to be something you can do!"

"Niall." I said.

"Mr. Horan, if there was, don't you think I would have tried already?" Dr. Philip, "But alas there is none. I am so sorry."

I grabbed a tissue off of his desk and wiped at my eyes. I took a deep breath, "Thank you, Dr. Philip."

"I am truly sorry."

"It's alright. Is he okay to go home?" I asked.

"What?" Niall looked at me.

"I'll have him prepared. I'll give you two a moment." Dr. Philip made a smile and left.

"Nora?" Niall said.

"Let's just get Kenny home. Okay?" I looked at him.

"You're not-"

"Can we just wait to talk?" I snapped, "I want to take him home."

Niall wiped his eyes on his shirt, "Yeah."

"Thank you." I opened the door.
