All at once everyone began to wake up with groans. People looked around in a confused daze, silently asking what had just happened though one person from the corner of the room shouted,

"What the hell was that?"

I propped myself up with my elbows feeling my spine crack. How long were we out for? It didn't seem long for Louis was still standing on the table with hands on his hips, looking please with himself. No one seemed to have noticed Louis was not affected; they were too busy moaning about their achy backs and how their ears wouldn't stop ringing.

Resting my back against the wall I stare up at the ceiling swallowing hard. My mind seemed to be cleared in an odd way, like someone had happily taken every single one of my memeories, though I knew that was impossible. I could still remember my name, my age, my house, and even what had just happened a moment ago; but the feeling of having my mind invaded threw me off guard. I tried to speak but no sound came out once Louis began explaining,

"New prank I've created." Louis now has all eyes on him, some glaring, some staring in pure amusement. He digs in his robe pocket and pulls out a small blue marble-like object. He holds it high above his head proudly. "This here is my new invention! It creates such a high frequency that it makes anyone who comes into contact with it to become immediately unconscious." Louis pulls a piece of plastic from his mouth and holds it up, "Chew this and you will be unaffected." The room in a dead silent and I could almost see the smile on my brother's face falter before everyone erupts into cheers.

People help Louis off the table, patting his back, telling him how brilliant his new prank is. His friends welcomed him back into their group, Louis not hiding his surprise since him and his friends had a falling out not too long ago.

As the Slytherin house laughed off the prank, I sat against the brick wall not amused by Louis' invention. My ears were still ringing, my mind still felt empty, and I couldn't help but wonder if this new "prank" of his was really a prank?

It seemed much too powerful to be one, not even the Weasley's could pull of a prank this big, right? I shook my head while finally standing up, I knew I must be wrong. Louis was a prankster and I was just being paranoid. It was a harmless prank, no harm done to anyone who was effected by it; but as I left the Common Room I couldn't help but have this terrible feeling that it was just an experiment for something greater.

No matter the change in Louis from earlier today, I knew it all had to be an act. I knew there was something Louis was not telling me.

I feel like I can no longer trust my brother.

...

That day I sat with Neville outside the Herbology classroom on the windowsills overlooking the backgrounds of Hogwarts. The sun was just peaking out from the rain clouds and small drips of water echoed throughout our surroundings. A soft breeze blew around us sending a wonderful scent of the aftermath of a rainstorm. I propped up a foot on the sill and hugged my knee to my chest after explaining to him how oddly my brother had been acting. I only told Neville this because I needed to vent, and Draco has been ignoring me for weeks now. Of course I excluded the part about the Dark Lord influencing Louis, not entirely sure if I could trust Neville with that information since he was close to Harry Potter.

"What about your mother?"

"She ran away." I say without any hint of emotion. I was angry at her for leaving me here with Louis. For leaving without any word. Running away from her problems like a coward while I faced mine like a serpent ready to strike. Neville gives me a soft look but I ignore it, only shrugging my shoulders.
