Mistaken

Sapphire

The news moves through the mansion quite quickly. Elias has finally woken up. Relief fills everyone's soul. It's been three days.

I hope now that he's better we can leave. But after what happened I don't know if I should still hunt down the vampire with him. Now I know how to kill a vampire. Yet I know no matter what I do, I put lots of people at risk.

While Elias was sleeping, I started talking to Max and Elias's father. I've learnt a lot about vampires these last few days and know their few weaknesses as well as their many strengths.

As we leave the breakfast room, I stop Max, slightly nervous. Maybe he'll just want to see his cousin. However he stops to look ay me.

"What is it, Sapphire?", he asks, looking at me, slightly fed up.

I look at the ground, as I ask, "Max... Could you... See if Elias still wants to go... I don't want him to get hurt..."

"Sapphire, if you think Elias will change his mind about protecting you, then you're wrong. Elias has been very... Depressed since you left. I think he felt guilty. But Elias has a good heart and at times it is annoying that he's always amazing," Max explains, before walking out.

I take a moment to register what he said, before leaving. But I am stopped by somebody. As I turn around I see that it's Elias's uncle, Sir Graham.

"Now that you know Elias is okay, I'm sure you can go. Elias won't be able to go and hunt down this vampire. But I've got a stake for you."

I feel the wood in my hand and look down at it, before curtsying, "Thank you, sir."

I enter Max's room, where I find what I'm looking for. Max and Elias's father, as well as Sir Graham gave me practicr for battling. For that I used an outfit of Max's. It is thick, so that it isn't easy to bite me through it.

I slip into his bathroom, incase he enters while I'm getting changed. I look at myself in the mirror, noticing how greasy my hair is. I'm tempted to have a bath, however I am in somebody else's bathroom.

Quickly I pull the tight dress Laurette lent me over my head. I struggle, but soon succeed, followed by me pulling off the last items of clothing. Then I frenetically struggle into Max's outfit and strap the stake to my back. I smile at myself, looking at my reflection.

That's when I hear Max enter. I decide to leave through the window to make it easier. I search for something I can throw out of the window. I find some towels, which I try to tie together using knots.

I let it hang out of the window, tying it to the kitchen sink. I can't risk it slipping.

Soon I begin to climb outside, tightly grabbing the towels as I slowly lowered myself down, closer and closer to the ground. That's when the towels begin to shake and I see the towels beneath falling. I think I heard a tearing noise, but I'm not sure.

My grip begins to loosen, threatening me to fall to my death. I can make out the bottom towel and realise it's been cut. This is just a preparation test. You need to find the way to get down.

Suddenly I feel a strong force pulling me up, but I fight against it wanting to manage this on my own. However my hold is becoming weaker, tempted to let go. I sigh as the force pulls me higher up.

As I reach the top, I see Max. Shirtless. He's shaking his head, as he pulls me up the last bit, "What the hell were you thinking, Sapphire? Also, when did I give you permission to just go into my room?"

I can tell from his tone that he's not completely angry, but he seems a bit irritated. He picks up the last towels and sighs, shaking his head, "What a waste."

Max puts on his white shirt, before looking at me again, "I'll take you back to your families. I'll kill the hunter."

I stare him, surprised. I never felt like Max particularly cared about me. He helped train me, but I thought that was just to get rid of me. But here he was, with this offer.

However I shake my head, "I need to be involved, Max. I can't let people fight my battles."

Max sighs in disapproval, before speaking words that cut deep, like a knife, "Sapph, you idiot. You think adventure is fun. You think being with vampires is so amazing! But it isn't! You're a plague to all of us and you should just go away!"

A/N: Hi guys! I just want to state that I may eventually slow down with updates because of school. I go back today (I'm starting French!). First two days we've only got about an hour and a half though!
