~Chapter 4~

They stood there, staring with their bloodshot eyes, they growled hungrily. The blood inside me boiled and my heart beat two times faster.

"Don't.......move." I whispered to Jess without making eye contact.

I gently adjusted the gear to reverse and placed my foot on the accelerator, ready to dash out backwards. They didn't move. All they did was stare.

I could have sworn I saw a walker lick it's lips.

"Candace, anytime now." Jess whispered.

I tightened my grip on the steering wheel and stepped on the accelerator. The car moved a few seconds and stopped with a puff.

"Sh*t" I cursed and grabbed the wires I had connected between my thumb and index finger.

I stepped on the gas again and the car gave a quick whine but still refused to move.

The walkers saw my attempt and dashed towards us, tumbling over each other without a care, just to get the chance to sink their decayed teeth into our pale flesh.

They were closing in and I wasn't ready to be walker lunch today.

I tightened my hold on the wires and stepped on the gas once again. It just wouldn't start.

I mostly saw this happen in the movies and found it fun. But it's no longer fun when you are walker diet.

Adrenaline begun to rush through my veins as the walkers were just a few meters away from swarming over us.

I quickly twisted the wires and stepped on the gas again with all my might. The truck roared to life.

One walker jumped unto the bonnet of the vehicle. Yes, they were that close.

There was no time to waste. I stepped on the accelerator and the truck zoomed backwards, causing the walker to fall off.

I picked up speed, still driving backwards.

"You might want to hold on to something." I warned Jess. She quickly did so. She knew how crazy I could be.

Still driving backwards with speed, I quickly pulled the handbrake, stepped on the accelerator and spun the steering wheel to the left. This caused the vehicle to do a perfect turn around so that our backs now faced the swarm of walkers.

Immediately we turned, I stepped on it.  The truck zoomed on.  A smile lit up across my face. I had saved us from being walker diet.

"Uhh Candace?" Jess called in a low tone.

"I know! Am I good or what?" I replied, cutting her off.

"Candace?" She said once more, looking backwards.

"Don't worry Jess, they won't bother us anymore." I assured.
