The cold concrete from the floor was my only way of knowing that I was still alive. It was the only thing I felt. I hadn’t eaten in days and my skin was dirty with dried blood on my legs making me in serious need of a shower. The only human contact I had in the last few days was Regan. I was just lucky they let us share a Cellar. We were all each other had.

“How are you holding up?” She quietly asked.

“I feel weaker. How are you?” I asked.

“About the same.” She replied.

I heard her shift around on the floor and I pushed myself with what energy I had left to face her. We both sat up and tried our best not to cry again.

“Have you tired your connection anymore?” She asked.

I slowly nodded my head. “Yeah but there was nothing. I haven’t heard from either of them in four hours.”

“I haven’t heard from Jared either.” She said.

I reached out and grabbed her hand offering her the only comfort I could. If only I could figure out a way to get us out of this mess.

“D-do you t-think they-”

“No.” I cut her off. “Don’t even say it.”

“But-” She began again.

“Rae.” I said taking her face in my hands. “Trust me ok? If they were you would feel it.”

“Are you sure?” She asked.

I nodded. “Yes. They say it feels like your heart is being ripped from your chest.”

“Then where are they?” She asked. “Why won’t they respond to us?”

I looked at her unable to hold back my own tears any longer. “I don’t know.”

She scooted her body closer to mine and leaned her head on my shoulder. I didn’t know what else to do so I just rested my head on top of hers letting her know I was there until I couldn’t be anymore.

“Kiela.” Someone whispered in my ear.

Who’s there and where am I?

All I could feel was the cold underneath my body and nothing else to offer me any kind of answers. What happened to me?

I felt someone shaking my arm this time. “Kiela get up.”
