Dear Oscar,

Dazzled.

That's how I felt the next day,
walking down the hallways.
Math was tolerable and science
turned out to be fun.
Words of Shakespeare were understandable and I fawned over the brilliant Othello
and his faithful Desdemona.

It was lovely,
the beginning of eighth grade
with you.
And even though I knew Phoebe thought it odd,
I couldn't help the attraction I felt for you. There was simply something about your presence
that I was drawn to.
You were the flickering flame and I the simple moth that yearned so much to embrace
what it could not have.

You were a good friend, Oscar.
I simply wish you could've
remained that way forever.
