Dear Blake,

You had your flaws,
but they were forgivable.
They were understandable.

You were lying to Phoebe.
Pretending to be straight.
But this was to be expected.
You had a lot to lose if your
interest in boys came out.
Homophobia in football
was not a secret.
Homophobia in your family
was an even louder tune.
With your father hailing from
Texas and your mother from Louisiana, I guess you never stood a chance in a household like that.

Bisexual wasn't a word in their vocabulary. Straight was all they knew and demanded.

You were taking all of the attention
from your twin sister Dove.
Always shoving her out of the spotlight with your achievements
and a winning smile.
This too was comprehensible considering you never noticed.
You were so busy trying to control your wandering eyes and focusing on being the best on the field.
Blake, you never saw just how hard it was for Dove to breathe in that household where only you were memorialized.
You only saw her as a stuck up cheerleader.
A self-absorbed friend of Phoebe's.
But when I got closer to you,
I got a little closer to her too.
And Blake, you were wrong.
She was hurting just as much as you.

You were never true to yourself.
You were always hiding away.
Kind of like how I did with Stella.
Understandable, forgivable,
considering your situation.
Still, it was painful to watch nonetheless.

Blake, you should've never had to hide so much of yourself.
You deserved a chance to be you
just as much as I deserved
a chance with Stella.
I regret not doing enough to
get you to that opportunity.

Sometimes I think
I should've tried harder.
