**A/N I've got something planned for the end of this book, gotta see how the finale goes to see how I'm gonna play it

"So," Theo sighs, "you wanna see the Doctors?"

I nod. "You know where their lab is. Take me."

"For a price."

"I'm not leaving Liam."

He looks into my eyes. "Just tell me you love me. One time."

"Do you really want me to lie to you?"

He sighs. "Just once."

"It doesn't mean anything if I don't mean it."

"You wanna see the Doctors or not?"

I sigh. "I love you. There, now let's go."

He nods and takes something from his pocket. A blindfold. "Can't see where it is."

I roll my eyes as he covers them with the blindfold.

--

"She wants to talk," Theo says as he removes my blindfold, and the Dread Doctors look at me.

"I want answers," I say in a firm voice.

"About?" The Surgeon asks.

I take a deep breath. "Why'd you kill my friend?"

"She was the closest thing to family we could find for you."

"What about my parents?"

"Those people who adopted you?"

My eyes widen slightly. "Excuse me?"

"You were adopted."

I sigh. "I don't wanna ask why you know that. Why'd you do this to Mason?"

"Success... is imminent."

"That's not an answer."

"But Mason is."

"That's not the answer I want. Why them?'

"They matched."

"Matched what?"

No response comes.

"Hey, I'm talking to you. Answer me."

They turn and look at Theo. "Control her."

"Theo doesn't control me. I control myself. And I want answers." The feeling of death sinks in again.

"For your friend... You needed a banshee heart."

I gasp. "She was a banshee?"

"And as for Mason, that's none of your concern."

"He's my boyfriend's best friend, so it is my concern."

They look at Theo again. "You told us you could contain her. You have your word to keep the banshee."

I look at Theo. "What are they talking about?"

Theo turns to look at me. "The deal was I had to keep watch over you because you're a banshee. They wanted your information. That's why they made you a chimera, to bring it out."

"You don't love me."

"Don't even think that."

"You were keeping watch over me and doing whatever you thought would hold me."

"At first, yes. Buy I actually fell in love with you along the way."

"Sure you did." I turn to the Dread Doctors as my senses heighten and I shift into my werecoyote form. "I'm Gina kill you. I'm gonna kill you all." I charge at them, but they dematerialize. "Cowards!"

"Echo!"

"No! You don't get to talk to me!"

"Echo, this isn't who you are."

"It is now."

"Being around Liam is changing you."

"No, no it hasn't. Being around you changed me. You, the murderer. The guy who tries to get people to kill other people. Good people." My senses return to normal as I head over towards the exit.

"Echo don't go."

"There's no place for me here." I open the door and leave the room, head through the tunnels, and exit the system.

--

"You okay?" Liam asks me.

I sigh. "I guess."

"You gonna come with me and Scott?"

"Where are we going?"

"Gotta talk to Theo, get to the Dread Doctors lair to find Mason."

"I just left there."

"But he'll take us if you're with us."

"I was just there."

"Please?"

I sigh. "All right."

"We're going in a few hours."

I nod. "Okay."
