"Hey Lydia?" I say later that night.

"Yeah?" She asks.

"Can we communicate with the dead?"

She turns to look at me. "I don't think so. Who are you looking to talk to?"

I sigh. "My best friend. The Dread Doctors killed her, gave me her heart."

She shakes her head. "I'm sorry Echo, but she's gone."

"We could play Ouija."

She chuckles. "I don't know if-"

"I'm serious. I player it once with Beatrix, maybe we could try. Just once? I'll do it alone if I have to."

She sighs. "Do you even have a Ouija board?"

"At my house."

"Echo, this is insane. That's a game. Your friend is dead. I hate to break it to you but she's gone."

I sit back and put my head in my hands. "You're right... She's gone."

She sits beside me. "I'm sorry, I-"

"Don't be. She's gone. I need to live with that."

She grabs my wrist and pulls it away from my face, so she can look at me. "I lost my best friend, too."

"When?"

"Couple years ago. Allison Argent. She was Scott's girlfriend, and my best friend. She died trying saving my life."

I look up at her. "How do you live with it?"

She sighs. "I'm not exactly sure. But having my other friends is surely a big help."

"Then why isn't it helping me?"

The door to the room opens, and Liam walks in.

"Maybe you need something else," she says quietly.

"You okay?" Liam asks me.

Lydia gets up and leaves the room, and Liam takes her place.

I sigh. "I-I miss her. I miss my best friend. She's dead, and I can't even speak to her in some supernatural way and get her ba-" I cut myself off. "Oh my god."

"What?"

"I-I can get her back!"

"Echo-"

"The stuff that brought me back, I can use it on her!"

"I don't know how that will work."

"I have to try." I kiss him on the cheek quickly, then stand up.

"Where are you going?"

"To find Theo. He can get me the stuff."

"I can't let you go alone."

"I'll be fine."

"I meant I don't trust him to be alone with you. I'm going with you."

I sigh. "Fine, let's go. But... Let's bring Scott."

"Why?"

"Just in case the bite could do something."

--

I examine the syringe in my hand as the four of us head towards the spot where Beatrix is.

"It only works on supernatural," Theo says, trying to convince me not to do it.

"That's what Scott's here for."

We reach the square of police tape, her body still lying in the dirt.

"I'm surprised no one moved her," Liam says.

I shrug and kneel down on the ground beside my friend. "Scott, do it."

"It might not do anything."

"I need to try. Please."

He sighs but kneels down on the ground, grabs her wrist, and bites into it.

I take the syringe, stick it into her neck, and push the plunger down a little bit.

"C'mon Trix," I whisper quietly. "Wake up. Wake up!"

Her eyes fly open, but instead of brown they're blue.

"Beatrix!" I yell as I devour her in a huge hug.

"She doesn't have a heart," Scott says. "It shouldn't be possible."

"I knew she was gonna ask at some point," Theo says. "I took care of it. She won't be a werewolf though. She's gonna be a werecoyote, because that's the heart I gave her."

I look at him. "Thank you."

Beatrix looks at me. "That your boyfriend?"

"Not anymore." I grab Liam's arm and pull him down next to me. "This is my boyfriend, Liam."

She looks at him. "No way."

"Shut up, Beatrix."

"What?" Liam asks.

"She had the biggest crush on you last year."

He smirks at me. "Is that so?"

"Beatrix, shut up?" I say to her.

She laughs as she stands up. "Thank you."

I stand up too and hug her. "I missed you."

"I missed you too."

Liam puts his arm around d my shoulders and holds out his other hand to Beatrix. "Liam Dunbar."

"I know. Not to sound creepy I mean I've seen you around school and we have English together and I've seen you play lacrosse please don't think I'm weird."

He laughs. "You're just like Echo."

"We kinda base ourselves off each other," I say.

He smiles. "I'm glad to see you happy."

I smile. "Come on, we've got things to do." I grab Beatrix's arm. "You're gonna love being in Scott's pack."

--

I look around the room, at all the people asleep and the few that are awake.

"You should get some sleep," Liam says while removing his arm from around me.

I shake my head. "I'm not tired."

"You've got a little something..." He grabs a tissue and puts it under my nose.

I use one hand to hold up the tissue, and the other to grab his hand. "I love you."

Instead of saying anything back, he leans in and kisses me.

"Gross," Beatrix says.

I turn to look at her, still holding the tissue. "Wow Beatrix, I thought you knew the girl code."

"That isn't what I was talking about."

"What is that?" Liam asks while pointing to the tissue.

I pull it away from my nose and see that the tissue is a disgusting color, a mix of black, red, and silver.

"No," he says while grabbing another tissue for me.

"I-I think I'm gonna be sick."

"You already look pretty sick," Beatrix says.

"That's supernatural blood, normal blood, and mercury," Liam says.

I shake my head. "No, no it isn't. It's nothing."

"If that's mercury..."

"That means I've failed again. I didn't even know that was possible."

"SCOTT!" he gets up and runs into the next room.

"What's going on?" Beatrix asks me.

I sigh. "I'm probably gonna die."
