"You can't-do that Ivar!" Eva was pacing back and forth as Ivar sat on her bed.

Eva dragged Ivar into her room while her sister was bawling her eyes out, their parents still in shock to even try to stop them from leaving.

"Do what?" Ivar said with disbelief, "I did not do anything wrong."

"It wasn't your place to tell my parents, especially like that!" Eva yelled.

Eva was trying to stay calm but she just couldn't. She was in denial about the whole situation as well, she would not accept that her sister would sleep with an old man just to get into a nightclub. She knew her sister was sleazy but her dads boss?

"So what? It is the truth," he said, "they would find out sooner or later."

"It doesn't matter! That was rude!" her voice was rising.

"Ha, so this is what I get for standing up for you?" Ivar humorlessly chuckled.

"So tell me, Eva, it was Elaine's place to tell me that you are a disappointment to your family and that being your friend is nothing but a waste?" his voice full of sarcasm.

Eva stopped her pacing and was facing the window, her back towards Ivar.

"Why do you let them talk about you like that?" his voice hardening.

"Your family treat you like horse shit and you just sit there, eating it up like it is true!"

Eva's shoulders were shaking and Ivar knew tears were rolling down her rosy cheeks. He hated her upset but he couldn't stop himself, he couldn't understand why she let people, let alone her own family walk all over her.

"Why do you not defend yourself?" He yelled.

"You wouldn't understand," she whispered.

"Oh look sweetcheeks, here we are again," Ivar laughed, "After I defended you from your disgusting family, you brought me here to yell at me."

"Yes Eva, I do not understand," sarcasm projecting, "You fight and argue with an infamous Viking, knowing your life is at risk with my anger."

"But you cower away in the dark, as your own family bully you," Ivar spat, "now ease my mind and help me to understand."

Eva didn't understand either, she knew Ivar was dangerous but she was always quick to start an argument with him. Eva didn't know what was so different about Ivar. He is the only person she has ever fought with verbally and physically. Eva didn't have the strength to argue with the ones who were supposed to love her.

Eva sniffed, wiping her tears away with her sleeves but remained silent.

"My father told me once... that happiness was nothing," Ivar sighed, "I believed him."

"But for a moment there you made me think otherwise."

...............................................................

Ivar had done his disappearing act again, it had been a month since he left the Sorenson household with the jaw-dropping news. It was a long month of Eva tiptoeing around her family, making herself scarce even though she had done nothing wrong.

She knew the moment that her parents welcomed him into the home he would leave with a lasting impression. It was just his nature, he couldn't help but prove that he was the intelligent, unpredictable person the tales all told.

Elaine had been crying a lot since the bomb dropped. Eva noticed that her parents were starting to neglect Elaine like they did Eva. Her parents were very clear that no one was to know who the father of the baby was. They also let Elaine decide if she wanted to keep the baby or not. Elaine had another two weeks before her first trimester was up, she wasn't showing but any longer and she wouldn't be able to hide it.

School had started back up again, Eva was excited to graduate. She was enjoying school, it kept her mind busy from thinking about Ivar all the time. Eva had managed to make a friend too, Joseph of course. Ever since that little hunting trip and his near death experience he has made it his mission to befriend her. He was good company, to say the least, and he was also over the initial scare of Ivars' axe skimming his head. He was now intrigued at his skill and was wanting to get some lesson from him.

Typical males Eva thought.

Eva was in the hammock, softly swaying with her eyes closed a small smile gracing her face, until a shadow blocked the sun. Eva snapped open her eyes, expecting to see her crippled Viking hovering over her. To her disappointment and surprise, it was Elaine staring down at her.

"Hows the baby?" Eva blurted the first thing that came to mind.

"I'm getting a abortion," Elaine replied.

Eva couldn't help her heart break a little at her sister's decision. Eva didn't believe in abortion, she thought it was a cruel thing to murder an innocent child. But her sister was a child too, and couldn't look after it. Tom Hail was notified about the pregnancy but wanted nothing to do with it or Elaine. Their father was offered a pay rise to keep everything hidden, and to Eva's utter disgust he took it. Tom wanted it aborted, and Eva couldn't help but think that it was him who was pressuring her sister into it.

"I know I've been the worse sister, and don't deserve you," Elaine was now sniffing, eyes watering.

"But I could really use your support right now," she cried.

Eva quickly got out of the hammock and embraced her sister, and started to tear up too.

"Hey, shh, its okay," Eva comforted, "I'll be with you every step of the way."

This caused Elaine to sob like a baby.

"I'm sorry for all the crap I said about you," Elaine said in between sobs.

"Shh.. don't talk, we can sort it out another time," Eva said patting her back.

When Elaine had finally calmed down she let go of Eva, feeling awkward as they were both new to this relationship they were starting to form. Elaine started walking back towards the house after thanking her.

Just as Elaine reached the door she turned back towards Eva.

"We heard you and Ivar that night arguing," she sighed.

"I'm truly sorry you lost a great friend because of us."

With that she continued on inside.

Eva dropped to her knees sobbing, she was sorry he had lost him too.
