The bar is still packed. People keep singing into the microphone. ‘Back In Black’, ‘Savages’,
‘Bad Moon Rising’, and even ‘Courtesy Call’. Each song gets me to tap my toes and hum along. The girl on stage finishes her cover of ‘Fake It’ and the next name is called.
“Next up, Gavin!”
I watch as Gavin exits the bar, making his way to the front and onto the stage. He stands in front of the mic and his song starts. ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’ blasts through the speakers. The girls in the crowd go crazy. He starts singing and I have to admit, he’s really good. His voice is indescribably good. I’m absorbed in his movements. He’s loving the attention. His eyes are scanning the crowd. He brings his attention back to singing and I look over at Andy and Daniel. He’s either singing or mouthing the lyrics in her ear, but whatever he’s doing, it’s making her smile. I take a sip of my coke and Andy shouts over the music.
“He’s watching you, Skye!”
She points towards the stage and even Daniel looks over. Oh she’s right. I lock eyes with Gavin, drawing a smile from him. He winks at me again, continuing to sing the song. He doesn’t break eye contact with me. I can feel the blush creeping up my face. The song ends and screams erupt from the crowd. His groupies follow him back to the bar. I look away, not wanting to be creepy. Andy and Daniel are busy so I grab my almost empty glass, walking it over to the bar. The waitress from earlier spots me and assists me first. There is still a massive group of people at the bar shouting out drink orders, but I guess having the owner buy you a drink has its benefits.
“What can I get you?”
“Just a coke, thanks.”
She nods and I wait patiently. Gavin spots me, but he’s busy with a customer. The waitress comes back with my drink before I can talk to him. I thank her again, heading back to the table. Andy is no longer swapping spit with Daniel. Instead, they are talking and laughing. When I sit down, my best friend leans in.
“Why aren’t you up there flirting with him?”
“Because I’m not looking for a relationship right now, that’s why.”
“Well, why aren’t you up there asking about that job offer he gave you?”
I forgot all about that offer. I hope it still stands. It’s only been a few days, but he might have found somebody to fill the position already.
“Who says I want the job?”
My question catches Andy off guard and Daniel’s phone vibrates against the table. He picks it up, glancing at the screen.
“Gavin wants to talk to you, Skye.”
“Why can’t he come over and get me?”
“He’s busy behind the bar.”
“But he had time to text you?”
He throws his hands up. I’m going to go talk to Gavin, but I just wanted to give Daniel a hard time.
“Just go talk to him!”
I hop off my stool, grabbing my purse and my drink.
