I rub my round stomach, taking a sip from my glass of water. The beautiful May day has the bar packed. Gavin and another bartender, Shawn, are working their butts off while the waitresses run in all directions. I want to go and help but I know I’ll just be getting underfoot. Instead, I sit back and relax with Andy. Daniel returns with two beers, handing one to Andy. She hides her feelings about the miscarriage like a pro. I know she is broken up about it inside, but on the exterior, she doesn’t show it.

“Thank you.”

She kisses Daniel’s cheek before taking a swig.

“So have you thought of any names for the baby yet?”

I roll my eyes, smiling at her.

“You’re obsessed with this baby.”

“Can you blame me? Babies are adorable.”

I shrug, letting my hand rest on the decent bump that proves that I’m pregnant.

“I have a few names I really like. I haven’t settled on any yet though for obvious reasons.”

“When is your next appointment?”

“A few days.”

“How many months along are you?”

“A little over five. Why?”

“Can you find out the gender yet?”

I groan. All she’s been obsessing over is the gender. Thankfully Daniel steps in, dragging her attention away.

“Did Andy tell you we were thinking about getting a puppy?”

“No she didn’t. What kind?”

She leans a little closer to Daniel, smiling.

“Don’t know yet. He just randomly asked me the other day if I wanted a puppy.”

“Whatever you do, don’t get a small dog. I don’t want to trip over it and hurt it."

She visibly tenses up and a worried expression crosses over Daniel’s face. She takes a swig from her bottle as he speaks.

“Why don’t we go dance for a bit?”

He leans in, whispering the rest of that statement in Andy’s ear. Whatever he says makes Andy blush and giggle. They leave the table without another word.
