This is a bucket.

Now, I'm not really sure why this is a bucket, but it just is. Not really sure why anything is anything in theatre, but it just is.

Theatre is just like that. Anyone can be anyone, anything can be anything. Empty air can be anything and anyone. *waves to a spot of open air* Continue your dreams as an actor, Invisible Bob!

Maybe I'm an old lady and you're *grabs some random person* my cat. *pets person's head* Good kitty.

And maybe I'm not an old cat lady. Maybe I'm a tragic Shakespeare character...whichever one's the thing now. Romeo, Juliet, Hamlet, you name it.

And maybe I'm not even a person. Maybe...maybe I'm like this bucket. Or maybe I'm a chair. Or a table. *gets down into a table-like position* Only don't sit on me. I'm not sure my back could take it. Oh, but tables don't talk! Whoops! *zips lips*

*gets up after a pause* Or maybe...maybe I'm just me.

That's the other good thing about theatre. No one judges anyone else, and if they do, they're just being a big hypocrite, because in theatre, everyone is weird. That's the best thing about theatre. You can be anyone, anything...but most of all, you can be yourself.

*pauses*

This is a bucket.

Notes: Although I wouldn't recommend this one for auditions, necessarily, this monologue would be great for performing in theatre classes (or as a handy thing to have memorized for when your parents gripe for the fiftieth time about your pursuit of acting as a career...). I really love the meaning behind this one.
