"Okay, Ellie. Are you ready for your first day of school?" I questioned as I looked up in the rearview mirror. She unbuckles her seatbelt and nods her head.

"Yes, mommy." She says.

I laugh and nod my head before parking my car and getting out of the car, I walk over to her side of the car, and open the door to help her out.

"Okay, bookbag check, lunch box check, and a very cute outfit that Kylie got you."

"Check!" She says jumping up and down. I squat down to her height before placing a kiss on her forehead.

"I love you, I'll be back around three to come and get you," I tell her before cupping her face.

She gives me a big smile before wrapping her arms around my neck, "Bye Mommy, I love you too."

"Now you better get going before you're late, your teacher is out there waiting for you," I tell her before getting back up and walking her over to the door.

Ellie turns around before blowing me a kiss and walking over to her teacher.

I let out a sigh before putting my hand up to my chest. I really hope she will be okay. Especially with what happened.

After running a few errands, I headed to Ellie's school and decided to come a bit early to see if she made any friends.

When I arrived at the school I headed towards the office to get a name tag thing, the office lady led me towards the playground where all the kids were playing at.

I saw Ellie who was playing with four other kids, two boys and two girls. She looked so happy, I couldn't help but smile.

Kids are yelling and laughing, playing on the swings, and slides, and running around.

"Looks like she's fitting right in," Xavier spoke as he walked up to me.

"She's adaptable and honestly I think this is what's best for her, especially with that shooting and everything. A normal life, friends her age." I say looking over at Ellie and then at Xavier.

He let out a sigh, "Well, the kids here are great. They're accepting and eager to learn, you know they're very good and kind kids."

The steady breeze blows into my hair, as I look at Ellie with a smile on my face. As she was talking to her friends she looked over at me and gave me a wave, I gave her a small wave back as my smile grew.

"God, I don't want her to grow up," I said looking over at Xavier.

He exhales deeply, "I don't either, she is such a sweet girl."

I nod my head, "I know."

"How is Samuel doing? Since he had his surgery?" Xavier questions.

"He's doing better, he can start going to work soon," I answered.

Xavier nods his head, "Did you tell him?"

"Tell him what?"

"That guy who shot him is in jail."

I shake my head, "No, I haven't gotten the chance to yet."

He shrugs his shoulders, "Oh, I thought you would by now."

"He was in a coma for two months, and now he's back home with me. I don't think he wants to talk about it yet." I told him.

He exhales deeply, "Just thought I might ask.."
